Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Maybe all our sponsors aren't going to renew and we are french connectioned.

Blind freddy could tell you were going to make a big financial loss after the year we have had.

One sponsor has already (allegedly) re-signed for another year.

Waiting on news about the other.

If

the AFL was worried before the Demons' presentation to the commission on Tuesday ...

then

it is even more worried now. And unlike the Suns, it won't be offering priority national draft assistance.

Anyone care to take a guess what he's talking about. Why are we back to being a basket case in the space of 12 months?

The only thing I can think of at the moment is that we told the AFL we are expecting to lose one or a number of our better or up and coming players. Or at the least, they expect them to request a trade. The reason I think this is because he brought up the fact we won’t be offered priority pick assistance.

Why are we staring at a massive loss this year?  Everybody on here says so I guess it must be correct. On what basis are you  making that statement?

We will have made a MASSIVE increase in inwards money owing to in excess of 6000 new members[ record].

As  the  break even figure at the G is 20000 people, over that figure approx. $10 to us a person. Each and every game we had over 20000 people, so we received a cheque for each and every home game at the G. Whilst we proberbly  budgeted for more we still didn't lose money.

MY source  for the figures was on a walk to the G a couple of years ago I asked Cameron Schwab, he told me the rule of thumb way of working out how you make money was as above. The figures for Waverly was 14000 and Dockland 30000.

I am only basing my statement on what I can see  at games and not what I cant in relation to internal club accountancy.

Also how much more merchandise do you think they sold this year and also membership  upgrades how many people paid for guaranteed grand finals tickets. Two in this house.

Break even figure is a different  to figure budgeted for home game attendance. Unless we were very conservative with our home game attendance forecasts the drop off in attendances will see a shortfall in actual revenue to forecast revenue.

i.e. The AFL HAS offered the SUNS priority draft assistance.....goodbye pick 2 to QLD!

Did we go into the meeting requesting financial assistance with a move to our own facilities, This could have been why db reported that the meeting did not go well. Surely the Club would have already had an indirect indication from the AFL as to what they were thinking about No 2 Draft pick. I would not think there would have been any shock if they were told that the Suns were being handed our pick, disappointment yes. After all AFL's priority would be getting the Suns up and running and not whether the MFC is able to retain members.

I suspect the first line is partly correct (and the second one %100 spot on). You'd think our major sponsor Jaguar might be out the door given they only signed on for one year. Its going to be a pretty hard sell to them or other major companies to sign up for next year and beyond.

I'd think Jaguar's sponsorship would take several years to generate anything meaningful and that they'd be better off backing themselves in for at least another year.  Melbourne and Jaguar are a ideal fit and brand wise and if they stay and we turn next season around then I would think it would pay massive dividends for both parties.

I thought the BE for the carpark was 35k? Might’ve come down since that was a few years ago...

think that is close as you don't count all of the MCC members in the figure.

Online the figures suggested were around 25k excluding MCC members.

TBH I don't know how the revenue share with the MCC works when an MFC member (not an MCC member goes to a game.)

General admission people much easier.

Also there is the question of make up games. If you recall the Anzac eve game which was a Richmond home game was also a make up game for MFC members. So did Richmond get any money from those MFC members

PS.. sorry I see you said carpark where I was talking the MCG arena

Likely - dogs don't have fingers. Have you ever tried to type using a paw?  That's why there are lots of typos (not spelling mistakes as someone grumbled rather rudely).

Is any one on here surprised that, after the season we have just endured, there are questions being asked about the performance of the football department and the commercial side of the organisation?

I would be surprised if the questions were not being asked.

With the playing group, there will be players that are restless. That is unavoidable. there have been problems on the players side and also on the coaching side. My take is that both elements are inexperienced and have a lot of lessons to take from this season.

As for the supporters, well it has been a tough season to see through to the end. No question for me. I will be back to support them once again, come what may.

Damien Barret: “I know that there are 3 MFC stars that are going to request a trade in the coming week, the club will post a massive financial loss, key sponsors are fleeing the club, everyone hates the Viney family and Simon Goodwin is going to be sacked before his new contract even starts... I won’t actually write any of this though, I’ll just post a little cryptic note on my weekly run-down.”

I think he says that because he thinks we’re applying for a priority pick, or at least wants us to think that.

What a storm in a teacup. This sort of thing used to infuriate me about the Footy Show. Eddie would wind everyone up by announcing Damo had an exclusive, or breaking news, something you would only hear on the Footy Show! Stayed tuned! Watch all the ads but don't change the channel. Be sure to hear Damo's stunning exclusive!

Then when Barrett came on he would waffle on about something so vaguely, I never understood what the huge news was supposed to be. Or it wasn't new at all. Or it sounded like rumour. Is it to be believed, I wondered.

If no one else is talking about it and presenting facts, I will take everything he says with a grain of salt. Headline seeker, along with many others in the media now.

Well, after reading this entire thread, there is only one conclusion - I presume this is our fate

The Bury situation is a good reminder of how the VFL was run before what we now call the AFL commission. It showed that clubs left to themselves couldn't run the proverbial chook raffle.Youngsters forget that even as recently as the '80's clubs like Collingwood were close to going broke.

I was involved with some clubs on the periphery and serious questions were being asked by bankers as to how you could repossess a spectator stand.

The good news is that none of the clubs are that bad anymore but with equalisation etc and AFL payments there is a new sherrif in town. Not too unlike the EU which many love to hate but without it Europe would be  a mess. Mind you I've never understood the benefit of the single monetary union.

Pretty much sums up the whole statement.  He said enough of nothing so others will create imaginary links.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
