Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy

They will give GC top two picks for Rowell and Anderson - those kids are best mates and so will be more likely to stick it out up there together.

Or leave together. Or leave separately.

Retention is their problem not picks. Get them senior players or a retention allowance, not more kids.

It must also be pointed out that we have used our last 3 first round picks on Lever & May

Prior to that we used 2nd round picks on Frost,  Melksham & Hibberd

All good moves in my book regardless of the injuries.

Draftees like Brayshaw,  Petracca & Hogan all suffered major injuries or setbacks so it works both ways

So what I'm advocating is actually happening.

Yep, that's what I was saying too.

right around time the brownlow coverage starts, via a press release

Yep, the age old release important information/news when everyone is distracted by something else so there's little to no backlash.

So what do we differ on?

I was saying you couldn't build a list from scratch with only trading away first rounders. But if you plan for it at the top (like say 2004-2005), you have a few decent players around when you get ordinary picks in 2007, 2008 etc.

I believe it was RPFC who stated that our recruiting woes started from the early 2000's and I reckon he's right.

Hard to remember back that far but you build for the super-list from a position of strength.

But we sat back,  our good players got old and before you know it we were in for a total rebuild with a rookie coach and a meddling CEO.

A recipe for disaster.  We went all-in with drafting and the rest is history

Think I'm right in saying that only 2 players remain who were drafted before 2010

An ageing Jones and Jetta who is now struggling with injury

We actually need some more experienced talent who could help out for a few years.  Free agents & RFA's who can actually play AF.

Fair enough and agree with all of that.

Won't be until a few days after the granny, the AFL know how to manage the media so after the results have died down a bit they'll bank on a heap of uproar/talk about the PP

Would seem that they’re going down this path if they don’t announce it today

Generally speaking it’s always been announced as a ‘no’ on brownlow night, so maybe if it’s a ‘yes’ to the pointy end priority pick they’re looking to maximise the media exposure

Your opinion or you have a legitimate source?

It’s my opinion...

I think the writing is on the wall with Ben King. GC might as well deal him this year for a premium.

GWS will be involved as well! Keen to get there hands on the Dees Pick and will pay the price.

Interesting about Crouch Chaser. Would he be worth the Suns’ late first rounder (17 as it stands) in your opinion? You’d think the Crows would play a bit of hardball. If indeed it does eventuate, adding Ellis and possibly Crouch along with Picks 1 & 2 would have them improving next year one would think.

Gil just said that the decision around Gold Coast support has been made by the commission and that the details will be released on Monday after the Grad Final. When pressed by Gerrard Whateley, he said that the decision was not a particularly hard one and that all at the AFL supported the recommendations.

My reading from it - pick 2 is off to the Gold Coast.

If true, I hope that we have got something from the AFL, for our loss and it is our loss made a little less if,  we trade 3 to someone.

There is no doubt at all, that GC have a better list and more upside, than we did, when we were constantly refused PP's.

They have a raft of young talent and if well coached, retained and developed, GC will rise up the ladder quickly, with the addition of several experienced players they apparently are securing this off season.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
