From what i have seen over the past few weeks, he definitely won't be in our best 10 players' and yet it seems we are going to be paying him a fortune.

God i hope we are able to bring in Ben King to give us at least something decent out of this wretched year.

What are we going to be paying him..?

Well he certainly isnt coming to us for as much as he’s on now, which one would imagine would have to be above the average $370k given how consistently he’s been a best 22 player at the giants. Would reckon management would be asking in the realm of half a mil

The game is getting way faster and we're going to sign Dom Tyson's good mate to replace the missing spot Dom Tyson filled in the side? With many of the same faults.

Signing him on any more than the average way does raise a pretty big question about how we are ever going to bridge the gap in speed the Tigers have on us.

Classic Demonland to say he's a crap player because he was no good or "went missing" today.

The entire GWS side went missing. No point judging him on today.

Tomlinson is a role player. He has little x-factor, but he's versatile, fit, hard working and consistent. For "free" (as in, as a free agent), I'm fine with taking him, but only if his salary reflects the fact that he's a role player (i.e. he shouldn't be on big coin, at all).

If he comes anywhere near HQ (wherever that is!) in the next couple of weeks, kindly escort him to Flinders Street to catch the next train to Moorabbin

Was by no means disgraced today, but had very little impact on the game which could be said for all bar Tim Taranto.

Completely agree that he doesnt set the world on fire, but I dont think anyone should be expecting him to be a match winner or game breaker week in and week out. Could add a lot in freeing up other players to play more match-winning roles due to his versatility across the ground. But once again the price has to be right for a player of that type and I hope to god we arent paying out the behinds for him just because he’s keen on us.

Close to the dumbest reasoning I have seen. What were their odds last week? (hint: they were bigger outsiders than this week)

If you reckon he went missing today, you should have seen his last two games. He was outstanding today compared to the last two games in which his team happened to play very well.

He is just a low possession, role player that gets more games than he should because he’s tall.

Having said he’s tall, he can’t take a contested overhead mark to save himself.

No wonder no other Club is currently chasing him.

The player i'd most liken him to is a calf-injury stricken hobbling Phil Davis but with a blonde crew cut in place of a manbun

Herald Sun has written as part of his performance rating that MFC should reconsider their long term, big money offer.

I think Tomlinson is a downgrade on Jones on the wing. He’s slow and can’t chase or tackle and doesn’t get enough of the ball.

Tomlinson is a versatile role player because he really doesn't play that well anywhere.

I know why he picked us but for the life of me I don't understand why we chased him.

My opinion has been consistent on him over the years every time his name has come up.

The clubs position has changed from no interest to signing him.

Why?

He offers us nothing that we need.

He has no leg speed, he doesn't' make great decisions or use the ball well & he's not a class small, medium or tall forward.

...and he's going to take up cap space that could be better used.

Gaaaawd NO a very poor mans Oscar!!

NO

We can say No all we like.... The deal is already Done!

He is coming...

700 odd players in the AFL and yet Goody and Co send out the call. " Go get me Tomlinson'  Should be sacked for that alone.

He was far from their worst in a game they lost by 89 points. Ok, he won’t be the savior, but he’s an outstanding character, an endurance athlete who will give us versatility, and he will be a walk up start in our 22. Ok by me.

I’d be far more concerned if we were offering Josh Kelly $1.3 mill over 5 years based on what he produced yesterday. They all have disappointing performances.

So little idea...

Not all players can be elite (by definition) but that doesn’t discount a player from being a good fit for your system and filling a key role.

What’s your thoughts on JKH, ANB and the Wagners and in particular, them getting games in the seniors?

Ha these comments remind me of when we were chasing Melksham.. the pitchforks were already lit before the bloke was given an opportunity.

We will overpay for him in any case.

Stop making sense, mate. It doesn't suit this thread.

For free, he is a good get for our side. If we were giving up, say, a second round pick then I would have some concern, but that isn't the case.

We also have no idea of the $$$$ we are offering, so until that is given as fact, it's useless getting upset over it.

My concern is that in four finals he didn't really show much at all and isn't that the stage/place you are expecting any player to stand up a little?

Also the Tigers get creative and go after Pickett.  We pick up the usual medium non speedy type in Dunkley who, yes needs more time and i still think he will be ok, but out of the two we need outside run, bit of class and finish (Pickett) yet choose the slower more inside / gruntier type (again) ??

How are we ever going to bridge the gap on clubs that are already 10 goals ahead (roughly) every time we play them when we keep choosing more grunty meat & potatoe types that have no excitement on the outside, can't break lines and relatively sluggish movers?  Don't we have enough already?

Surely we can get a little more creative / daring for a change and  try to pick up a mature Pickett / Jurrah type from somewhere who has X factor and can make a difference in big matches???

Well, I would not have recruited them.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
