Thought he was pretty good today. Worked hard, and was always there or thereabouts. Also battled well against Grundy in the ruck when Mumford was off.

I know the wing has been mentioned, but to me he seems better suited to a high half forward role, and rucking when the ball is forward.

Every kick I've seen this quarter has been shocking (3 of them)

Had good work rate and battles on. Solid versatile type.

But missed the shot and had a few turnovers.  Best position??  Mobile ruck???? Backup ruck??? CHB ?? Wing - no way !!!!!!

Better than Frosty.  Not on watching him in the last 2 weeks.

workrate is outstanding

his disposal will fit right in with the majority of his teammates

He also looks like a big unit to which is another positive.

A couple of his kicks were ok but he was let down by team mates not attacking the ball. He would've hit Cameron on the [censored] but he eased up and tried to chest mark it.

I'm more worried that he's just going to struggle to crash in for the ball and jump up and tackle, chase etc at his size on the wing than I am about his disposal.

Put up a very honest effort in the ruck.

As long as he's a utility getting paid towards the bottom of the 22 I'm happy to have him. If we're expecting more we're going to be disappointed.

Played his role really well today. Outstanding workrate. Kicking was hit and miss. He'll be a good pickup, without being outstanding.

Exactly.

Stays on the park too, hasn't missed a game for four year through injury i don't think.

Not sure he'll be an upgrade - besides, what if he wins a Granny medal and decides to stay?

I don’t think that’s the issue; it’s GWS finding room in the salary cap to keep him.

We won't. We'll get rid of Frosty and then play Tomlinson anywhere but defence.

Yesterdays final and the one against the Lions showed he shouldnt be playing down in defence. Looked much better in and around the ball when competing against Grundy or back of the stoppage when along the wing.

Feels like they will use him in a similar role to Pederson who we have sorely missed since his retirement

Genuinely seems like he can play any position on the park. Was soundly beaten by Grundy’s hitout game in the ruck but laid some crucial tackles and made some good clearances around contests. Pederson’s flexibility was a massive help to the team

Not many blokes leave after playing in a GF. Wonder if Giants will resign him now.

Workrate will be a big plus and good for others in the playing group to see.

I thought he was good today in the conditions which didn't allow for quality disposal.

I'm seeing a fair bit of flexibility in him, Pedersens replacement, hard working link up player

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
