I think most of them would have said to Joel Smith in the pre-season game, take the rest of the game off son.

That puts them in the short-list I reckon.

Sigh...

Hasn't it been "put to bed" that Smith's OP was unrelated to being put back on the ground? If that's correct, your shortlist might be of the candidates who are not knowledgeable enough to do the job.

Apologies, I thought the sarcasm would be obvious....

You have to understand that you’re dealing with Demonland where what would be  normally construed as sarcasm is often deadly serious commentary. They call it the Bizarro effect.

Yeah right. The one guy who kept his job in the FD under 3 different regimes (Neeld, Roos, Goodwin), and is leaving under his own volition to go overseas.

Worth noting that while Misson has been head-hunted a couple of times over a career in the AFL that goes back to 2001, he has never been sacked or "moved on".

That might have been the case all those years ago, but its been 2 years to long my friend, he's had his day.

I don't think you could be spruiking the fact that he worked under Neeld. He was an AFL appointment, The AFL ran the club back then.

How about the foot injuries of Trengrove and Clarke, that's all been forgotten about under his watch. Viney hasn't looked the same either, same goes for Vanders, people forget these things.

He was probably one of the cheapest at the time for the club and still was to this day. He came to the club at its lowest ebb, when we were a basket case in debt.

The Club protected his departure, I wouldn't go believing everything you hear. The Club are filithy with the way our fitness department has operated this year. Who would hire him after this years Deebarcle? No one.

Deep down he knews his time was up.

If you think that any of those have anything to do with Misson, I can't help you.

Where have you been in the last 8 years? You don't have to agree with my thoughts, thats your opinion, i have mine, but if you can sit there and protect the job he has done, you have a poor outlook on football.

The management of players coming back from injuries throughout his tenure has been absolutely diabolical.

All the best to him in Canada, hope he can land a position with the World Champion Toronto Raptors.

I wonder if he has ever even just said hello to Darcy Moore?  Would surely be the only possible explanation for his recurring hamstring injuries. These surely cannot happen without elite help.  ?

I posted this in the "Jesse Hogan out for the rest of the year with a recurrence of his navicular injury" thread. Probably more relevant here, as it's clearly Dave Misson's fault. Got all the hallmarks:

- a foot injury (players only get foot injuries at Melbourne/under Misson)

- a repeat injury (and as we know, repeat injuries only occur through either bad management or players coming back 'too soon')

- an injury that was misdiagnosed: "scans have confirmed that his right mid-foot sprain was unrelated to the navicular injury he suffered with Melbourne"

- an injury where it takes over a month to get an exact diagnosis (see above)

- an injury where a short period out: "The Dockers' confirmed that the 24-year-old would return to playing football in the coming weeks." turns into "Fremantle confirmed that Hogan will require a 16-week rehabilitation"

- an injury where it takes over a month to get an exact diagnosis (see above)

etc. etc.

One needs to question 17 post season surgeries timing & how players were managed

The question is wether the game plan of winning contested footy is causing injuries e.g. Oliver playing more outside as both shoulders needed doing.

Either way just another disastrous season for the MFC as usual!

Very exciting news. Apart from what seems almost certain improvement in fitness and health of our players I'm hoping it leads to a medium/long term improvement in recruiting and development.

I still think we'll need to build up our medical staff around a high performance manager and of course facilities.

We all want fit players on the park. And I want to see players, coaches, recruiters etc all the way down challenged to draft/develop/become the best athletes they can be. Burgess' background with world class athletes in soccer hopefully means we can see some speed, acceleration, powerful running in our players that translates to good footy.

Pretty sure his high performance program won't involve bricks ...

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
