It seems that the Saints have Richo in the gun this year and it will be a miracle for him to keep his job.

As we're likely to rejig our FD next year I would hope we are in contact with his management.

Richo is a great football man and a highly regarded assistant.

Would be a great addition to our club.

I played under him at East Burwood, winning Premierships in 1999 and 2000.

Nothing I wouldn't have done for him, a great man and great coach.

List management has let him down badly at St Kilda.

That’s why I love Demonland. From the very, very outside looking in Richo doesn’t look particularly impressive to me. Brilliant that you played under the bloke and can give some insight into how he is actually regarded. You have changed my opinion of him. Thanks

Aints are going to be last choice behind Carlton, Essendon, North and possibly even Hawthorn on the coaching merry-go-round. They have the least appealing list of any of them. Aints supporters are going to feel like they got left with the ugly girl at the dance.

or the ugly boy...

...anyway they have Brett Ratten waiting in the wings.

Alan Richardson, in my opinion, has performed extremely well considering the list he has to work with. Communication & understanding of the game appears to be very good & well regarded in the industry. (Beetles comments support this)

Our boy has been out coached for most of the year & failed to make hard decisions early in the season by playing his favorites & unfit/out of form players. Consequently our season is stuffed.

I know what I would do......

That’s a pretty long bow you’ve drawn there.

Richo would be a good get, especially in a senior / mentoring role around Goody ....... but tbh, I'm more concerned about losing Jade Rawlings in this year's coaching merry-go-round, than I am about picking up Richo who is still contracted.

Yes I know......just cant get excited from what I've seen this year.

Either way Richo would be a handy inclusion & I guess Goodwin has 3 more years to justify his position.

We play the saints in a month by which time Richo may not be there.

He certainly has given Goodwin a coaching lesson in recent encounters.

St Kilda were supposed to be an absolute basket case from the day before he arrived until the day after forever, it was seen as a task on par with the Melbourne rebuild, with the only saving grace being the presence of Riewoldt and Montagna. He managed close to a 50% winning rate for most of the seasons he has been there.

Clearly he's got something working , but that something wasn't a good list!

Meanwhile, even though Brett Ratten is clearly St Kilda's best option, he wont get the job because he is notorious for being honest and forthright about the condition of the list and the immediate future prospects of the club. (that is pretty much why he got sacked at Carlton, the coterie lords didn't like his 'negativity' and Malthouse said 'yes of course you are about to win a premiership').

He will be sacked the week before so they can get the new coach bounce effect against us!

Jade has been great for us but at some stage he will move on for the betterment of his career.

It might be time for McCartney and there has been talk of Jennings moving on.

Be all that as it may...

We need quality assistants with experience for a balanced coaching department.

Richo is a quality assistant. Just ask the people at Port.

Forget the contract, he's in the gun and will be lucky to see the year out.

People often talk of getting the latest star out of the game, forget that...get proven experience.

It's worth it's weight in gold...

Conversations I had with some  St Kilda Players families last year left me in no uncertain terms that they wanted him out of the club. I agree he comes across as a good bloke and he has performed well at lower levels of the game and also as an afl assistant coach, but sometimes the next step is too high.

He is highly regarded as a developer of players and Brendan may be looking at going in another direction. If we have a position he should be a leading contender.

Dean Kent just limped off at Saints training and likely to miss this week and maybe more.

I'm amazed he lasted 14 weeks.

I was thinking the same thing, when i heard the news I thought there it is Kent's yearly major injury, I think if not for his body falling apart every 2 months he could have developed into a very good footballer.

Out for the season.

I suspect part of St Kilda's problems aren't coach related but having an abundance of smug twats running the show. Simon Lethlean really did get a free kick in front of goal after screwing up (pun intended) in AFL admin and his recent 'if we keep improving' comments (some interpreted as earnest) were, for mine, the comments of a total vanker keen to show who's boss.

The people who run the Saints are guilty of myriad footy club sins. Committee shenanigans are in their DNA. (Even more than us.)

This was always going to happen, he had a season ending injury every year he played for us didnt he?

Strained quad, season ending.  I’m pleased he has been doing ok, and is into the saints for another 2 years

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
