I wondered if Gibbs would add value to our side from an outside run and accurate kicking perspective...

I'm not sure why, but I have had a soft spot for him (aside from his man-bun years) and still rate him as a footballer...

Crows gave him a 4 year contract and gave up picks #10 and #16 +/- later picks to Carlton.  At this stage it looks a disastrous trade.

But there may be some solace.  Crows hold Carlton's 2019 1st and 2nd round picks!  ?

Some weird dealing going on between those clubs especially when last year's McGovern, McAdam and live-pick trades are factored in.

On topic.  Gibbs? No way!  He is 30 with 2 years to go on his contract and can't get a game.  A club would have to pay the Crows 'overs' to break the contract.  After the Crows pigheadedness on the Lever trade don't want to deal with them again.

Gibbs is still is high quality player (ask Clayton Oliver about the third quarter the other week) but he has clearly dropped off in form from the sustained excellence of most of his career.

Has always been short of the star expectations people have about No.1 picks, much like Murphy and Kruezer. Has always been picked out as looking a bit gentle on the field, despite pulling his weight for things like tackles, contested posessions, and all that.

Bizarrely, it looks like even though Adelaide would probably now be regretting giving up two first round picks to get him, Carlton at the same time would be unhappy with what they ended up with, although that has more to do with the way they used their picks.

I once had the pleasure of sitting opposite Gibbs at a cafe, without actually realising it was him. It was right before the trade, and the public talk was that the move was for family reasons. Coincidentally, it was the really delightful way this unknown man was having lunch with his toddler (a freak'n angel kid in appearance and behaviour) that made me look up and smile, long before I realised it was anyone significant.

Moral of this story, Gibbs moved to Adelaide for family reasons, and his family is doing fine over there, and we don't even have to think about whether we want him or not because it isn't going to happen. He even has another kid on the way.

We can all just sit back and wish the best to a nice guy who is doing fine. Nothing to trouble ourselves about here.

Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole. Off-field issues no club wants to inherit.

Adelaide have learned the hard way. They gave up two first rounders in exchange for him + a second rounder. If they could have their time over again, they would.

Have these 'issues' gotten a hold at Princess Park,  'SF'.?   or is it some sort of  'individual' vice.?

Definitely not just Gibbs but I don't believe the others were Carlton affiliated. Put simply, there's just certain groups you don't want your club involved with.

Completely unrelated to the whole Bugg situation too, so I think Carlton's current woes are just a result of ... well, Carlton being Carlton.

I didn't realize this was the situation.

I'm honestly not sure which is worst though Lucifer.  I mean I dig it that Carlton don't have them and it will help to keep them weak and in the doldrums for longer, but I don't really want the crows to get any good players either.  A bit of a devil of a problem as they say.

I guess one thing it might do is discourage Carlton to tank and for them to finish a few places higher would be a good thing in the grand scheme of things.

NOT a longevity recruit for us. Been a terrific player but .....

As some posts have mentioned gambling it may be worth noting that on FC this week, Matthew Lloyd said bikies turned up at training at an AFL club.  He didn't name the club but suggested their presence was a 'shot across the bow' type message for a player(s).

The panel went on to discuss how rife gambling is among players and is a major concern to clubs and to the AFL.  Of course, the concern is not just the impact that gambling can have on someone's life and family but fall into the wrong crowd and who knows what pressures may be applied.

Not suggesting this relates to Gibbs or anyone else, just that gambling is increasingly an issue in the AFL and any club can be affected.

His sole reason going to back to adelaide was the family support there and his wife wanted to move back, so I doubt he'd move back.

But it's strange he is dropped again, I mean his 2nd half on Oliver was great. He shut him down completely. I have no idea about off field issues but it's annoying he played well against us last week and is now out again. I mean I think I heard the crows assistant coach talking about match ups against gws and there isn't a spot for Bryce. I would have thought he could do a tag on Kelly or Coniglio

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
