Some of you guys are incredible.

Need: Fast outside runner with silky skills, good overhead and can kick goals.

How many players match this description in the whole AFL? A dozen? Most would have been top 10 national draft picks.

This is a draft that’s the best of what’s left.

Take the best of what is available. Dunkley looks solid, comes from a strong football family and is 19. He isn’t going to be Josh Kelly or Lachie Whitfield or Tim Kelly or Hugh McCluggage or Ollie Florent.

But he might turn into a good player like his brother.

Still a teenager and has a good build. Doesn’t look particularly slow to me so not sure what other posters have seen.

He has been in form in the vfl and is fit so should be in the seniors in the next couple of weeks you’d reckon

whst is the deal with this draft, are they signed just until the rest of the season?

Apparently the player nominates his deal....

Players must submit their contract terms when nominating

- A player on a short-term contract ending on October 31 the same year receives a minimum of $50,000, with a further $20,000 if they are not re-signed or picked up as a delisted free agent

- A player on a contract that ends on October 31 the following year is subject to the same terms as any other player

"ample similarities between Dunkley and his brother Josh"

So slow with poor footskills? But probably not as good. Sweet.

Good luck to him though.

I’ve clearly missed something here... where’s it say he’s ‘slow’.  Clayton Oliver is an inside mid- certainly not slow.

Welcome Kyle!

Was shaping to go in the early rounds of the draft this year as a mature-ager.  We basically get a player an and extra second/third round pick in the national draft; good outcome.

If he’s anything like his brother, who was also overlooked by Sydney as a father/son, then we’re onto a very good player.

Sheesh!  The kid hasn’t even pulled on a jumper for a photo and you guys are all over him like STD on a flight attendant.  He does something that we haven’t done this year - kick goals from 50 and hit up inside 50 targets to advantage.  Slow?  Says who?  Give the kid a break.

Surely you’d just be happy that your son got selected by an AFL Club and is now living dream?

It's just that the commute from Sydney is a real bugger until he gets his licence.

I doubt it.  Sydney had the chance to take him as a father son and turned him down.

Sister plays netball for the Vixens too.  Some seriously good genes in that family.

Could be a real surprise for us Demon fans. I have watched him since he was about 12 or 13 playing for Sale Magpies footy Club U/16's and he has worked so very hard to progress this far. Is a real chance to play a lot of AFL. At 18 he may still grow a tad but at present is just slightly shorter and lighter than Josh. Like his brother and sister Lara (Melb Vixens Netballer), he is a student of the game he plays. Has talent in spades and is respected by all down here in Sale and Yarram where his family home is. A real hard worker too which might be a bonus this year. The whole family are sports achievers of the highest calibre. Good Luck Kyle.

I'm one of the first to say we need more pace and outside run/skill and wanted us to use multiple

Hop back in-line  'DS'...   your about 3 or more years behind in this area,  old son.

But also its not Just Speed we need.

I'd say Hannan is a game to game proposition... as well Might be AVB.   Jeffy is shot...  and Tracca is...  well,  should be inside-mid.

We need flankers,  for all four Qtrs of the Oval...  as well as wingers who can fly.

His father was a toughie ... and played alongside Roos, the two of them controlling the Swans backline like two knights on a chessboard. He'll be just fine and terrific in two years. Development is the issue, particularly at the MFC. We've had talent before ...

Anyway, young man, best wishes for a fantastic Demon career and it would be great if the rest of the Club can turn things around so you can share the pride.

There is a whopping list clean out coming so Dunkley might have landed in a great position at the Demons.

Good Luck to the kid!

Father was a gun!  Loved that mid-90s swans team; was great to see them come from nothing to just short of a flag.

Lockett, Roos, Kelly, Creswell, Luff, Maxfield, Kickett, Dunkley, etc.

My Dad played for Sale and so did my Uncle Jack, albeit decades apart. Both were VFL firsts standard amid overtures from the big smoke 133 miles west. Footy was big time there, from the 20s to the 60s, in particular. Some greats came from the central Gippsland area. Pedigree can mean a great deal, Kyle.

Getting a rookie at this time of the year won't help the dees. However as a future player he may become a hit. Something tells me that someone like Petracca is going to be put up for trade bait i.e a direct swap for H.Brayshaw.

I hope you mean A Brayshaw otherwise Demonland will go into meltdown when that happens....

I don't get some of the negativity towards the kid. It's who we got. If we'd have lost even more games than we have this year (hard to imagine) (we also need to remember we shouldn't have even been in this predicament this year), we would have gotten someone else.

But we didn't.

We managed to eek a couple of wins, and Dunks is the guy.

Is he a Walsh? Nope. He doesn't need to be. We supposedly already have a couple of our own Walsh's. He's a Dunkley. And that's the name we'll hopefully be screaming out as he directs some smart, direct passes to our boys inside 50, leading to goals and a flag. Or he'll win us the ball on the inside and create opportunities. I don't know, but he deserves a chance.

He could be a piece of the puzzle. An ingredient. Not even a useless ingredient like parsley. Like a bay leaf. You don't know exactly what he does all the time, but damn you know you shouldn't do it without him. He could even be the stock! Essential!

Personally, I'd rather direct my energy towards some of our boys who aren't having a dip, and taking the jumper for granted.

Let's give the kid a chance, he looks alright alright alright and he's got some pedigree!

Welcome, Kyle! Have a dip, play smart, bleed for the jumper and we'll love you forever.

Welcome Demon Kyle hope to watch you play some good footy with our great club. Looking forward  to watching you grow into a fine mid fielder. With the likes of Viney, Clarry, Gus, Harmes, Petracca and N.jones and others to lean on you will be in safe hands.

Live the dream and make us proud.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
