Well picked. Italian heritage?

Yes? and am finally (trying) to learn the language.

Losing our most skilled player who is in ripping form for Spargo makes me want to puke.

i hope the team puts in 100% effort for the full game today. Do that and we’ll always be a chance.

Backs to the wall today. Nothing to lose. i hope we have a red hot go and if we do we will be in good shape going forward as players return.

Clearly Spargo is in to pinch-hit against Mumford.

Or possibly, somewhat more realistically, to hang over the shoulders of Heath Shaw all game to slow him down.

In the end, we all know it isn't going to be team selections that win or lose the game. Not with a dozen players out and everything on the line.

Our wins have been against ordinary teams, and have been by small margin coz we can't kick straight. Wet weather (if it happens) today will just make that problem even worse. Yes GWS has a poor record at the G , but ours is no better so we cant take any confidence from the venue.

We might go hard enough to prevent a blowout, but thats the best we can expect imo.

Finals are still possible though....................... *cough cough.

How does Salem go from no concussion symptoms to a late out? Mixed messaging again from the FD. Huge out.

I didn’t think he did?

Thyroid yes but can’t recall him having too many concussions.

There was that time a brick hit him in the head... not sure of any others

Bizarre. 9 days as well. Surely it wasn't just a "wait and see how you wake up oj game day"? If he was still showing symptoms after 6-7 days it's a given he isn't playing. The FD is a joke.

Better hurry up and get to the ground folks. Only 20 minutes until the first bounce and there's only 90, 95 thousand seats left.

He had several concussion episodes in the 18 months before the brick incident, which was in 2017 preseason.

On a side note, just read that Paddy McCartin has been put on the LTI list and still can't train.  Really sad for him.

So while it is disappointing to lose Salem today I'm glad the club is being cautious, especially with his history.

Concussion symptoms come and go.  He may have been fine a few days ago but not today.

Even if he hadn't fully recovered by selection time, I reckon the club hoped he would be good by game time.

Either way we did the right thing to wait till the last minute and to pull him out when found to not be ok.

Can't go due to junior football today grrr.

As the other posters have mentioned - two men and a dog here. It’s actually nice weather for footy. I was getting a bit tired of coming to home games in jeans and a t shirt. It just didn’t feel right.

Go Dees ❤️?

predict we'll start strong but then go goalless for 3 quarters. giants by 42.

Spargo in is mind boggling. His form at afl level this year has been horrible, and his form in the vfl hasn’t been worthy of promotion. Really shows the coaches and selection committee playing favorites to pick someone in such poor form. Either that or we’ve got more injuries than I realized and the fit options are down to Spargo and Preuss?

Spargo in for Salem. Oh boy.

Time to get your praying hats on.

Weakest crowd I can remember since the Neeld days. Great day for footy. Where is everyone?

Just got here. Come on boys same effort as last week and we won't leave disappointed.

please never play that version of our song again.

16k max I'd say.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
