Yes...I did mean so far.

I am extremely confident of a win today (and next week).

No one on DL has been more negative than me this year, but we are turning it around. I think we may be in for the ride of our lives in 2nd half of the year. And that ride will start today.

With both SA clubs losing this weekend this game has become that much more important... A win here and we are just a single game behind 7th and 8th spot.

Dees to win the next 3, with Hibberd, May, Lever, Melksham, Hannan and Smith all back before or just after the break.

I feel quite optimistic today. We played our best football of the season last game in some brilliant passages.  If a few more handballs stick to their targets and the goal kicking is fine tuned, absolutely we can win this.

We should have beaten last years premiers relatively easily last week in the city with the biggest home game advantage in the comp. Back home, we can put the GWS “Gunna Win Soons” to the demon sword.

I’m expecting a fair loss today.

Possibly a slippery day, we love to handball... mega turn overs.

if it stays dry... maybe, but I can’t see us winning.

Love the optimism.

Let me temper that.

We will be obliterated today.

I think GWS will be far too classy for us. They have talent across all fields.

Giants by 4 goals.

“Obliterated”? Ah well. I guess I will just take my enjoyment from my backyard bbq lunch and a cold beer or three in the glorious 26 degree Brisbane weather then?

Days like this serve to remind me why I moved up here.

both us and the Giants don't play the MCG well, so no real advantage there. I think they have more class across the ground than us at the moment so im expecting about a 4 or 5 goal loss. but will be happy to be proven wrong of course.

Despite everything, our core midfield - our biggest strength - has remained completely intact, and the only one not really in form is Brayshaw. Defensively (as a team, rather than back half personnel) we’re functional now, where we were hopeless early in the season. Our forward “connection” (I’d never heard that term before this year) is just going now, which was also rated as hopeless early.

Couple this with the fact that GWS have historically sucked at the G gives me confidence we can knock them over. We’re nowhere near as bad now as people are making out. Looking forward to this one.

Gameday Prediction(s):

- Hunt will kick four majors.

- Jeremy Cameron will be reported.

- Toby Greene will kick five majors.

- Hore will take seven intercept marks.

Taking my 4 year old to his first game of the year. We have country memberships. Anyone know if we just scan at the gate or do we need to nominate the game somehow and get a ticket in another way? Just unsure how the five games are counted.

Conniglio will pull a rabbit out of the hat and win it for them with 40+ possessions

You moved to Brisbane to get away from the football. Wow. Of all the spots in Queensland tho, why Brisbane ?

Well I have to work so am missing my first mcg game in a very long time. I hope we win and bank the points. I just hope Gawn can contain Mumford.

My weather app says it’s only 25 degrees in Brisbane today so the jokes on you.

Heading to the G today. Yet to attend a win this year ?.

I’ve changed my tip back and forth about 20 times. Might settle on GW$ as emotional insurance.

Not sure what to expect today.

12 degrees here. Raked some leaves, about to do a run to the recycle centre.

Public holiday tomorrow, the fridge(s) are stocked, the only thing missing this arvo is Tom $cully to say some nasty swears at.

Giants by 22.

But like he normally does half of those possessions will be clangers.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
