Can’t imagine anything aside from Lewis for ANB.

Salem plays more wing/mid

We'll need a smart player,  to play on Toby Green.

Salem or possibly Locky ?

He'll probably kick 6+ now that i bring it up, but i think Frosty is a good option to put on Cameron. He's just as athletic and quick and he has the rangy arms to match.

I'm more concerned with what the likes of Green will do to our defence.

I would like Harmes to run with Greene

He is named in both, I really hope he plays, up there for best clubman along with Gawn at the moment for mine. To me he has the right attitude to get into Greene.

Players named on an extended bench are always listed in VFL teams. Harmes is on the bench for a Sunday AFL team. He's not playing in the twos.

Fritsch on the other hand...

Hmmmn  we might need him elsewhere,   stopping them around the middle. ?    and helping with our transition.

I think minding  tGreen is almost...  a tagging role.   So possibly Locky.   But does he have the concentration.?

Atmo...  final teams at 5.00 PM  tomorrow.

Don't worry it will be Lewis that plays. I think we will get smashed. Cannot score enough and the extension club badly need a win at the MCG. We don't play it well.

GWS play it worse.

Agree DV.  Harmes is in career best form and is even heading Clarry right now.  They will need to run someone with him.

Stick Gus on Greene and try & run him back into some form or at least keep Greene reasonably quiet.

Would be instructing Harmesy to go hell for leather attacking with a smidgen of defensive as required.

Early days to be asking for a run with from Lockhart IMO.  Just finding his feet and reasonable form.

what do you mean cruetly? since he has been interested in the Demons, we have not ever missed finals!!  ?

No offence intended and I sincerely hope you and your boy continue to see many finals wins in the coming years. Sadly not this year I think, unless we manage something like 87.  Now that was a last half of a season . Up until the last kick. Could see it coming from the time they cleared our forward area. Just like chess moves. Stuff that it’s the past  hope your lad sees more wins than losses for this year.  Go Dees.   See you Sunday perhaps I will be wearing red and blue t shirt.

No way Harmes is playing for Casey. I reckon Stretch and Fritch will both play for Melbourne on Sunday as well.

Got a good feeling about this week. We demolished them at MCG in round 23. The training run for GWS against Carlton will put them on the back foot.

Bold prediction: Petracca converts his good contest and ground ball work and snags 3 goals, while Tmac also converts his chances and kicks 4.

Lets face it OD, it's hardly match of the round.  You got off cheap.  I'm surprised he didn't ask for a 3 course a la carte in the Long room!

He knows I am sadly only an MFC member RN.

Surely Melbourne is taking the pi55 by naming Harmes at Casey! No way is he playing VFL this week, those days are behind him.

I confess I don’t see what others do with Fritch, I wouldn’t say he’s been outstanding but I also would say he’s one of our better ball users. I’m just not sure we’re using him properly.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this week, but not enough to tip us.

Simples: we play last week and we win, like the week before that (and most of the weeks before that) and we lose. This one is genuinely in our own hands now. I would like to think we have finally turned the corner, but we'll find out soon enough on Sunday. This really is now make or break. Lose this and I will finally bid farewell to 2019. Over to you Dees, I'm right behind you (with a figurative knife).

GWS have actually got much the same side in as rd 23 last year.

In - Greene

out - Ward, Shiel

So you could argue their side is actually weaker with those outs.

Chook he is in such good form and yet no mention in the press so the FD must have thought GWS would fall for it if they named him in the McGoos!  There goes that cunning plan! ?

Tactical genius

Do we think de Boer will go to Oliver? Heard a stat on the radio yesterday de Boer has accumulated more possessions than some of the players he’s tagged during games.

We do have the luxury of throwing Gus back in the guts if indeed Oliver’s influence is limited thanks to de Boer.

Harmes will play on Coniglio, Dees will win.

I think more likely Whitfield...

I would like to see Gus go head to head with Coniglio but unfortunately the FD want to play him out in no mans land.

So if that's the case then maybe Viney could do a team job running with Coniglio...

Agree. And if he shuts him down will go a long way to helping us win. Coniglio is critical to them.

Like someone else mentioned stopping Greene is crucial. All year it has been the mid size and small forwards that have really hurt us, not the bigs. Not sure who gets him. Certainly not fritter. Wagner will get the gig is my guess.

Pretty hard to pick from that extended bench - Harmes is the only lock. Stretch and Fritsch are both only hanging on by a thread; you'd think Goodwin would pick Lewis even though most of us now wouldn't; I really want to back Weideman in to get going again; Preuss was playing okay before injury. I don't think Spargo or Wagner play.

I'd pick Harmes, Stretch, Weideman and Fritsch (in: Weideman, out: Neal-Bullen). I think Goodwin will pick Harmes, Lewis, Preuss and Fritsch (in: Lewis, Preuss, out Neal-Bullen, Stretch).

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
