Don't get me wrong, it's great that we won - we didn't give up at the end, 4 points and all. I'm not normally a wet blanket, in fact quite a dry one (?), but even the way in which we won, the dropped mark etc was depressing, and totally reflective of how we have played all year (with no learnings in this space). We'd have been beaten by any other team, and I'm still at a loss as to how a team can fall so quickly. I don't mind losing, but I question the gameplan and the boys' fundamental inability to hit a target, take a mark or make even one smart decision going forward.

Lifetime Dee here, I go to many games (during the darker days, as well), never microwave my membership etc, but I'm entitled to a real world opinion. I still hope for the best, and maintain that every year will be our year, but in doing so we need to be honest with where we are, learn and move forward.

Go Dees.

Good on you, mate.

Regardless of our season, this will be the type of game that shows up on our magic memories DVDs. A win out of nowhere. It’s certainly a win I’ll remember and one of our best comebacks ever. No matter what team you follow, it’s a game that most supporters would have enjoyed watching.

Full of pizza and bit tipsy now, so I hope someone takes these words to heart and enjoys the game for what it was, a comeback win.

Harmes looking to be unselfish almost cost us as Tmac dropped the simple mark but thankfully got enough on it to get a score

Just on this... surely the public aren't the only ones aware of how we have an inablity to convert i50's to scoring shots. Goodwin should move away from 'unselfish' football and get everyone to blaze away.... i suspect it'd be more effective.

ps... 2 games in one year for having more I50's than your total points scored.

Well done Melbourne!

Confession: I turned the game off in disgust after that last Gold Coast goal with 49 seconds left. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would come back to Demonland 30 minutes later and find out we won. Half an hour after we lost(!), I rewind the game and watch the miracle on grass.

You'll have to stop that Chook.    It can't be good for your health. ☺️

Also props to Hibberd - that was a moment where he knew what was coming was going to hurt a lot, but went in anyway. Genuinely tough play in my opinion.

They brought Hogan back after 2 weeks when he had a fractured clavicle and had it plated.

I'm an honest old fart, but daylight robbery has just got some appeal.

Miles off still but showing a heartbeat. Sad to see Hibberd injured hopefully not too serious. Hore is fitting in and building, also Lockhart looks to be getting more comfortable. Preuss in for Keilty. Frost is a complete roll of the dice every possession but luckier again today. I've watched a few Suns games and they're actually a decent team believe it or not. Kind of lucky Sexton had an off game. Salem is unreal. Thanks again Maximus. The comp is so even, savour these 4pts. If we can get rolling after the bye we could sneak in and bring the ruckus.

Not quite the miracle on grass (I was there!) but still an incredibly determined win.

As a rule we lose these games.

We did not play well but don’t be so high and mighty that you can’t enjoy a win in the last second.

Ever heard of “winning ugly”?

i was watching this with my kids and with 49 sec to go I suggested “never give up”...a great lesson for the kids and  a WIN for the team.

Farcical really. Call me a grinch, but that level of joy inside the coaches box and on the field is nauseating. No way did we deserve to win that.

Hope this doesn’t keep the scrutiny off our backs.

66 to 42 Inside 50's will guarantee that won't happen - I hope.

That stat  alone is an indictment on someone or something.

Yes I was thinking this when everyone was saying long term injury. Plate it asap, back in a couple of weeks.

The new 6-6-6 has really [censored] us this year, but it won us the game tonight.

We're adjusting to it.

Realistically Oliver should have checked his run.

That's what I initially thought, as well...  then considered it may have caused a free downfield...  upon checking back further to the OMc contest,  and looked for Holman,  I saw Holman was in fact Omac's opponent.  He very nearly won the game for them,  and OMc virtually lost it for us...  not thinking,  and not working hard enough Oscar.  Its time to wake up young man.  You don't know how lucky you are.

For decades, I've seen teams like Hawthorn and the Swans play like rubbish in games like this and then snatch a win, often from us. Now , we're doing it. Good.

This.

Recently always been

”Hawks/Swans/Cats/WCE played poorly all day, still found way to win”.

In my day was Carlton/North/Tigers.

Great teams find a way to guts out a win, 2 players down, come from behind, interstate.

Went outside and put a brick through a picket fence when the Suns hit the front and missed the Hore goal. Did see the winning point though. All happy then. ?

Harming a fellow D'lander is taking it a bit far Clint

Well your initial thoughts were right, no free kick would have been given had he not held him, he let him breeze past him with zero body contact and then turned to chase.

If we played man on man your assessment would be right, but watch the whole match and you’ll find very rarely the player will break neck run with the player after he is on the mark. Omac made mistakes, but this one was a bigger mistake by Oliver than the whipping boy

So cynical. Excuse me for reporting what one of our players said and trying to find some positives. Guess you would know better huh? What positives could you see?

Was having a laugh, but sure take it as an attack.

anyone care to guide through why our i50's are so poor?

Can’t kick straight for goal from set shots or snaps

cant kick to a target inside 50

cant kick to the advantage of a leading forward

Ball carrier tends to just bomb long from outside 50m

very few forwards lead toward the ball carrier

and when they do we kick it over their head

no crumbing forwards who make position or have goal sense

Melksham doing time in the midfield

Jeffy dropping easy overhead marks

need two key targets who separate in the forward 50. Where is Pruess?

Other than that I can’t workout why we are crap!

By the way:  Where did Keilty play, he seemed to be in the ruck or on the bench?

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
