The downturn is really hard to make sense of.

Did we overachieve last year? Well, that's bollocks, you can only win against who you play against.

So what has changed (aside from personnel) for things to be so vastly different in 7 games (inc prelim '18)?

And more importantly why has it changed, and what needs to be addressed.

I'm really hoping Goodwin (or the rest of Demonland) can give me some clarity and answers on this.

Something stinks at our club.

Yep, round 1 picks have worked out a treat for us over the last decade....

I’m down next week for my only weekend in Melbourne this year, is there anything exciting happening in Melbourne fellas? Cos there is no way I’m wasting $60 bucks to watch Melbourne jog around not caring or giving a single [censored]......

Hawks will carve us up.  We are so easy to play against, Clarkson wouldnt even need to show up to the game.

The club sent an email promising a better effort. Well stuff them for more empty words. It’s about time we heard from Bartlett promising some action. No matter what Goodwin says there systemic problems behind the scenes.

What they promised was a better effing.

Seriously wondering if on tonight's form we are skilled enough to beat any AFL team.

Confidence has evaporated, trust in each other non existent, skills non existent, and intent to work hard just a memory from 2018.

From the outside it seems inconceivable to witness such a complete capitulation in such a short period of time. From the inside? Who knows, but something does not smell right.

Given where we came from at the end of last year that is the worst opening 6 rounds i think I've ever witnessed.  Never seen so many core players so badly out of form, so unfit and so lacking in confidence.  Murdering the ball by hand/foot and making so many poor decisions.

First half was a slog and hung in there but after half time they beat themselves with more of the previous 5 weeks (outside of one blip against an equally sluggish Swans on a smaller oval easier to defend) of rubbish football.

We are officially the worst football team (in terms of unforced turnovers and horrid disposal) in the AFL right now.

Goody has achieved this in a matter of 7 matches albeit with some degree of unfortunate luck from injuries and surgery etc.

Huge dose of the reality cucumber tonight at every level of the FD and club now.  If Goody didn't think things had gone completely off the rails prior to tonight then he sure does now.

As someone said in the game day thread... Back to the draft and drawing board.

Time to re-set and renovate starting with T-mac, the Weid and Fritschkreig off to Casey.

Other than a select few, zero confidence from way too many.

Can Goody swallow his pride and finally realise he needs to review his game style and coaching methods?  At the moment we are the worst in the AFL, outside of playing a sluggish ordinary team on a smaller ground.

Goody needs to get an explanation from the umpires boss on the massive inconsistencies between how we are umpired compared to the opposition every week. It is ridiculous.

Give the umpires a rest. Sick of hearing about them. They are not causing us to lose games. If we are first to the ball  we don’t give away frees. We have pathetic skills - that’s the problem.

hilariously i booked  some prof development up on the goldy 4 months ago as i thought we'd be playing some great football and in for a thumping at Metricon, whilst I sink beers... I do believe the thumping may still happen, whilst im sinking beers still...just to us.

I thought the effort was there.  It was better than last week at any rate.

Everything else kinda stunk though.

Gee that made a big difference. Seriously do you think the Umpires lost it for us. Give it a break please.

Seeing that everyone wants somebody sacked, how about the idiots who run the railways in this State?

We’ve been waiting 15 minutes for a train on the Frankston line and it’s still 3 minutes away.

Sounds like a lot of congestion. Make them the forward line coach.

It is clear that this club stood still over summer. Absolute indictment on every individual involved. Goodwin and co. brought this upon themselves.

This could be worse than the Neeld years by the end of 2019. I really hope not, but any positivity looks a million miles away.

Yep Cocktails ? rather than hard work

So Melbourne after 1 finals series....

It was only for the first quarter after that we were outrun, out-tackled, out-worked and we have managed to kick 13 goals in 2 matches. Not much of an improvement that I can see.

The butchering of the ball going forward can explain a lot of what is happening statistically

Not just going forward. It's been the key characteristic of the whole year.

The other defining characteristic is that the players' confidence is completely shot, and coming up against an in-form, confident side like Richmond, only rubs their faces in it.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
