Given how much he would cost in both trade and salary, I'm glad we didn't enter the race. He has delivered next to nothing, is already in his mid 20s, and we would have to make him one of higher paid players, plus part with a mid first rounder (at least).

Agree. Very talented, but also inconsistent and injury prone. Then again we like the injury prone types.

Hard not jump the gun just yet given trade period hasn't started but given our style of play and list overall, it's of great interest that our names weren't even mentioned when he declared he wanted out of the gold coast.

I'd love to know why.

Are we not crying out for a player with the class, x-factor and ability of Martin?

I'd argue it's the thing we're missing most. Much more so than a lack of 'run'. I mean, losing the prelim to West Coast in the manner we did was due to inherent flaws in our play and in certain players' profiles. Not because of a lack of run.

A team will always look slow when it continues to make unforced errors.

Carlton will potentially leap frog us next year. Whilst their list is young, it is far more balanced than ours and now they've added cream.

Early days of course, but the difference between us and the best teams in the come is completely and wholly a skill and execution thing. Any player who can create and kick goals from limited opportunities should be on our radar.

We've lost one in Martin.

Agree. I have used him as an example of the sort of player we need for a couple of years.

My guess is his asking price is too high. Who knows if accurate but there has been talking of him asking for up to 800k a year.

Yeah I would say the asking price is too high with the amount of interest/money being thrown his way from other clubs.

I also think the development of Fritsch might have a little bit to do with it. Yes they're different players and at this stage Martin is far superior but I think in a couple of years Bailey will be something special. His marking, kicking, decision making and reading of the ball are pretty elite already. We have an emerging player that could become a Martin type.

Martin. No. Pass. No way. Nudda

would need a pick around 20 -25 which we want to use on Langdon

too much $$$ and reliability and fitness questionable

GC and Carl seem to be a long way apart in this trade.

In the chance it doesnt get done and he enters the pre-season draft. Would GC re draft him?? or would/could he land in our lap???

anything to upset Carlton is worthy of consideration.

GC want a first rounder to be part of a trade. Carlton need 9 for Papley and would be crazy to give up their first rounder next year as it could likely be a top 5 pick.

I like Jack Martin I think he could be a genuine role player for us however I think his asking price is a bit too much.

Unlikely but we can always hope. I think GC would agree to delist him and let him sign with Carlton rather than have him come to us in the PSD, no point being cruel if you’re already getting nothing but who knows.

I’d call his manager and the Suns and say we’ll find pick 30 and 500k a year for him if he wants it.

If the GC are serious about pushing Keath into the PSD, then that'd rule them out from taking him back (although i don't think they want him anyway, just want a high pick for him). If he landed in our lap then that'd be great but I don't think on his output he's worth anywhere near what they are asking in a trade.

The 'pick points' comparison is ridiculous in any context outside of matching an academy or father-son pick.

Suns would accept the actual pick 13 for Martin, not some combination of later picks that 'equals' pick 13.

Absolutely. That's why we shouldn't trade for GWS future 1st rounder

So now we get in Jack Martin’s ear...

If he nominates for the PSD.  If he does, we should definitely take him.

If he nominates for the National... not worth pick 3 or 6.

Shades of Luke Ball.

Will definitely be interesting to see how this all plays out now. I would be very annoyed with the club if they aren't starting proceedings with talking to his management. If we ca find a way to get him passed GC it would be a great get.

If we can fit him under the salary cap then I'd love to have him at the club.

He will probably price himself out of our reach though.

Surely he can't name his price if he goes through the PSD?

JKH and Stretch must be about $150k each. Delist them and thats $300k to go towards Martin. What does he want p.a? Back load his contract so he only gets $400k next year then shuffle the deck chairs to pay for the rest of his contract

Plus there is probably money left over from the deal we offered Jamie Elliott.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
