Troy Chaplin has single handedly turned our defence into a shambles. Rawlings had our limited talented of a defence playing decent footy, then in swooped Troy Chaplin who now has our defence breaking some sort of record for opposition inside 50 conversion rate.

Can Demonland as a collective group replace him as a coach?

I think we have some good ideas....... sometimes

He’s only half the problem. Half the list is incredibly stupid. Dolphin’s possess superior intelligence than several players

12 inside 50s for 7 goals....

Who the [censored] is Mckernan. We made him look like Tony Lockett. Imagine Daniher was playing.

Our backline coach has changed. That’s what’s happened

I knew what we were getting when he as an MFC paid employee wore a Richmond scarf to the entire 2017 finals series and carried on like their number 1 fan boy.

Roos concentrated on getting the defence right then moving forward.

Can he please be recalled?

Absolute in-lead rabble. Headless crooks.

Even Nev has gone backwards partly at least as a result of lack of structure.

Every year since Roos left our structures have been getting worse. I don't care that we made a prelim last year, our coaches are holding this group back.

Not silly statements Mono. Roos got the fundamentals right by shoring up the defence then pushed us forward. JLT and last 3 games we have gone backwards. Can't blame backs entirely as mids like Jones do not get back to help.

Totally agree with these comments. Roos set a sound foundation. Goodwin is a young coach does he have someone who could mentor him. He will be overwhelmed soon the club need to do something as this is going to get ugly

We have the worst defence in the league. Every other team defends better than us. Even Carlton’s look much better. All of Paul Roos’ defensive work has pretty much become undone.

Serious problems with the personnel.

Omac and Frost have got to go.

Port and Richmind fans laughed at us because we hired this rubbish footballer as our defensive coach.

Get the [censored] out Chaplin!

Baffled when we hired him in the first place.  Bridge burner.

Later mate.

totally agree. if we at least had an organised backline we would be 2-1. Midfield not the problem, forward line down especially with TMac playing injured / underdone. but the backline is a chaotic shambles. no pace, no teamwork, no system.

Omac was coming good until Chaplin joined. Has gone backwards since

30 scoring shots for 50 i50 has to be some sort of record.

Jetta and Salem are playing well enough, Hibberd up and down. The speed at which the ball is coming from the midfield is undefendable.

There's plenty of bad stuff but it starts with key defenders incapable of influencing contests even semi reliably.

Even Josh Wagner played ok tonight by getting to good spots and attacking the ball.

I won't judge an assistant coach until they have some level of talent to work with.

We got the wrong one.... should have gone for Charlie. At least it would have been entertaining.

But that’s always how it appears when coaches are crap. Omac and frost took us into the prelim .....6 months ago!  They didn’t have operations either. Whatever has happened since then has sent them backwards at a huge pace. Imo it’s gotta have something to do with Troy. The first quater last night was truly lamentable...imo the most disorganised and comical We’ve  looked down back since 2013. I was shocked. Yes it got better after that but whatever plan they’re attempting to implement clearly isn’t working.

Our style...for want of a better word ...of football only worked (sic) whilst opposition allowed it. Once teams twigged...they deny  us our game and play theirs.

We are so dumb we just keep going our way...but are no longer relevant as better ( probably at a count of 17 now ) teams have worked us out

Sadly the FD hasn't worked out that we've been worked out.

The midfield was shocking defensively tonight, pretty hard to defend when the ball comes in so fast and the kickers have 15m of space

Defence cost us in First Quarter not helped by lack of pressure from midland forwards.

I think Oscar played his worst game last night and Petty (not Kelty) deserve the opportunity to claim that position till the injured return and beyond if he shows his true ability.

FWIW thought Hibbo returned to some form and Nev got back on track last night.

It's also so one dimensional to just punch someone must mark the ball and get it moving to create tun and carry to out forwards.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
