Viney has played only 68% game time.  I expect him to play a bit more in this last term.

We've got it all to do, but we can do it.  I'm backing us in.

Hunt looking like the player of old.

Great signs

The 6.6.6. rule should help jHunt,  and maybe Frost...  and should suit stretch.

Why we think we can play weid in the ruck and Petracca on the ball is beyond me.

As I said before the game, if we win we win ugly.

no consistency.... 3 goals in three minutes and two behinds for the rest of the quarter.

Simply no midfield pressure

We have just not been good enough.

Cannot wait for May to displace Frost from the backline.

I think we've got this, but it's going to be ugly.

I reckon we'll kick a few quick ones to start though...

disappointing effort that quarter. so many players not in the game at all. need to life big time to win this against a pretty ordinary team in port.

Why would viney kick to Spargo in a one on one

When he was standing behind his man.

Gee looking at our huddle the number of players sitting down haunching over.

We need a massive final quarter from everyone. It feels like we are 4 goals behind but its only 8. Come on Melbourne scrap it out

Won’t make finals playing like this never mind flags. Concede the four points today and look at switching things around. Stupid move bringing in Preuss if he wasn’t going to be played, bad mistake from coaching panel

How many times will TMac and Weidemam get caught jumping at the same ball? Infuriating.

Viney calling for it from Salem, then turning it over to give them a goal, was appalling leadership IMO.

Geez led like to know the individual tackle count. Not enough Grunt.

Back to the bruise free stuff.

Bit better that quarter I suppose but we’ll down. Their kick ins isolate seem precise and to plan and we have a number of midgets unable to match them in the air.

Cameron Mooney’s comments about the Port 3 qtr time comment interesting.  “Melbournes forwards don’t defend well”  Enough said,

From the AFL website:

Superior ball use allowed Port Adelaide to continue to dominate on the outside in the third term. The Power recorded 11 more effective kicks and 25 more uncontested possessions.

We look absolutely knackered. It's like Port is playing in different conditions. I know some of our boys are a little underdone with game time, but it's not a great look.

Gotta suck in the big ones this QTR and do what a top 4 team would do/needs to do - take our 4 points.

Leaders really need to stand up this qtr.

Cmon Dees.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
