40,000 members prior to Round 1 is a great achievement!

Surely we're aiming at possibly signing up 50k by the cut off date?  It actually seems like a realistic target now.

In 2016 we set a membership record of 39,211. The hope was we’d get to 40,000 the next season. We’ve just hit 40,000 and it’s mid March. At the rate of increase in the last 2 weeks we’ll crack over 50,000. That was a dream just 3 years ago and the Club has only just reached finals for the first time. You can see that 60,000 doesn’t seem like such a pipe dream in the next couple of years.

I would be happy with 50k which is only about 11k to go so a couple of wins early should see us get to this milestone.

50k needs to be our base minimum moving forward. 60k should be a longer term goal. 70k in the next 5-10 years would be an outstanding result.

Yeap, the Blues are at 56k already, a record for them.

IIRC they were around 55k last year... they may be like the mechanical hare at the dishlickers... tauntingly out of reach

I was just speaking to the membership team, apparently we are at about 41,140 as of this morning.

Should we win a flag anytime soon, i'd expect our membership to significantly drop the following year.

What % of the membership are 50+ years old? Most will suffer massive heart attacks after the siren. The rest of us will either drink ourselves to death or die from lack of sleep as a result of wayyyyy too much adrenaline.

Very happy to risk all of the above DD.

If I die at our winning Grand Final I have advised my fellow Dees tragics to go full “Weekend at Bernie’s” style with me for the duration of the celebrations.

No.

Winning consecutive games holds the key.

People want to see solid results, not just promises

How bad must things be at the kennel? They are offering a free upgrade to a full club membership if a 3 game membership is bought.

Make a mockery of membership numbers, unless they are categorized.

Its almost worth buying one for the grannie access.

Now 43,829!

This is approx 6,000 up on same time last year and a mere 400 short of our all time in July 2018.

We will smash 50,000!  Then how high?

I'm worried that Saturday's performance has held quite a few back from re-signing.

I think your heart has got the better of you LH, after a bad loss this weekend at the cattery we will struggle to get past 45000.

After a great win at taxpayer stadium this Saturday we’ll rocket past 50k

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
