James Jordan

Player bio
Former club: Oakleigh Chargers
Age: 17
Height: 186cm
Weight: 81kg
Position: Midfielder

A late starter in the TAC Cup competition this season, the Caulfield Grammar boarder from Yarrawonga showed by the end of year he has some outstanding attributes. Playing predominantly through the midfield and half-back, the versatile runner displayed good decision-making and ball use, while also playing taller when required.

The draft bolter of Oakleigh’s midfield started the game on fire, winning 10 first quarter possessions to be one of the best players on the ground early in the contest. He won two extremely clean ground balls during that period, releasing both to the advantage of his teammates. He was having a genuine influence, but certainly quietened as the match went on. He earned a free kick in the final term after putting his head over the ball, but was rarely sighted otherwise after the first break. He ended the game with a respectable 17 disposals and it will be interesting to see where clubs rate him, as there is certainly some talent.

if you click on his name on the afl draft tracker page you can watch a video of him.

Seems to have very good vision and a desire to set up passages of play with his kicks. Can see him developing his game running out from the half backline.

A smart pick for us.  You would expect him to develop at Casey over the next 12-24 months, but he is just the type we need moving forward.

Just spoke to my mate who coaches at CGS and Oakleigh. Asked him about Jordan. Said he's a ripper kid, clean ball use, more contested than outside. Reckons he'll get better over the next few years as a late developer. Not much new info, but good to hear we've got a clean user who is more contested than outside too.

Like his height at 186 for a midfielder....

watching the youngsters at Casey will be enjoyable. There really haven't been too many of them the last few years.

If we can get two if not three of the new four to fire it will be a fantastic result

Going to be a struggle for some to spell his name correctly!

I love a country kid with a pure kick. From Jason Taylor's comments I'm not sure he's really targeted for any particular position, maybe more of a gamble on some skills and athleticism.

20th December, would have to be closest to youngest player in the draft.

I like this, close to going into next years draft and with another year under his belt would have gone a lot higher by the look of him.

Good skills and composure.

The recruiting staff are really earning their money.

of all the recruits, i think i like his highlights reel the most - moves like clayton, and his kicking was on point

will forevermore have his surname spelled incorrectly on demonland

Another club must have been looking at him if we taken him so early in the draft.

i like players that can kick a ball and hit a target

Not sure that Casey has really been n old Boys team plenty of recruits 19/21 year olds , but this 5 plus some Rookies will be interesting to see development like you said Jim.

I read these posts thinking, "how could anyone possibly spell Jordan wrong???" Took me a good few seconds...

The AFL draft tracker spells it Jordan, which I had assumed was linked to the official registered player database. The MFC social media group spell it Jordon, however it's the same mob who called Kade Chandler 'Kyle', so my trust in them to get it right is low. Which is it??

Jordon on the club site, on his social media and on various draft profiles. Jordan on the AFL site. Confusing. Expect it’s -on

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
