Obviously we picked the wrong people to manage our list because clearly some people here on DemonLand know better than the professionals list managers our footy department hired ?

Im not sure Hogan is more important than Neale is to Freo. Everything starts in the middle which is where Neale comes into it.No good if Hogan sits inside F50 while Freo have traded away the most likely player to feed Hogan the required ball.In the end Forwards only kick goals because of the Mids.

Yes but Neale wants out, and has said so publicly... the deal will be done. I am sure.   Even his mate from the Cats has already made arrangements to join the Lions.

I think the Lions will end up uppin' their anbte` for Neale... watt goes around, comes back around.... Just like Halley's.

In the past, one could have made a very strong case that many here did know a lot better...

If we take that club it will be on the club to spin it in the way you have there. At the end of the period every club will be saying they are happy because they have filled need X and managed to trade into/remain in position Y in the draft.

We will definitely be getting unders for Hogan and Mahoney’s bold statement of a trade for hogan being up there as one of the highest of all time will look like a complete joke.

Hang on a sec.... What did you expect or want him to do?

Mahoney went large which is exactly what he should’ve done as opposed to talking Hogan down or making him to sound like an average kpf that should only require  mid first rounder and a pack of beer nuts thanks

Poor old ‘Mahns’ is on a hiding to nowhere.

Just get the deal done. I for one are sick of it. Overs, unders doesn't matter. Hogan can languish around the bottom with the Dockers I just want to see May and Kolodjashnij become Demons.

Hogan stays. Circus continues another 12 months.

Bell to take the Neale pick 5 to the superdraft, or trade it up for two mid first rounders. Get Hogan in on the cheap next year while adding top shelf young talent to their list now.

As a result May to go to a Melbourne based club, just not us.

Of course I’m not happy with this outcome as a Dees supporter. But this is the route I believe Freo under Bell and Rosich are taking.

They’re not the dills many on here want to cast them as.

Which is why Jesse will be wearing a Whankors jumper by 8.30 pm tomorrow night. They know his value and will pay the price to get him

Lock it in.

2019 will be a bleak old year for Freo fans with Neale gone, no Hogan in and just some blue sky 18yos struggling to make their way in AFL with little protection in a bottom 4 team.  Add West Coast flag euphoria and stir.

Rosich and Bell would be brave.

I would’ve like him to follow through on his statement and be prepared to walk away. I feel like our club has got the big bold statements thing down, but in many aspects we still lack follow through.

May being available and his desired club has definitely made things awkward, it tipped our hand and Freo have been able to exploit it. Fair play to them.

I guess I am in the unconvinced corner on the May trade. I get the results based idea of it all, that if it completes the team that’s all that matters, but I hate giving other teams a leg up at the same time. I think it’s also frustrating because Freo have been sniffing around Hogan for years, they have wanted him desperately but now when they will get him they won’t have to sell the farm for him.

Absolutely and they’ll be concerned if they have nothing to sell guys like brayshaw, Cerra and co they will want out.

This hogan deal is, and always was huge for them.

How good would it be to somehow get Cerra ripe?

I hope we go after Cerra next year and I hope we're in his ear this year. Just as they've been in Hogan's since he was 17.

He would be the cerra on top for us. A beautiful inside/outside combo with speed. Too late to get him added to the hogan deal? Haha

Massive risk that they will never get him. He might play at dees in 2019 and want to finish what he started. West coast might trump freo in 2019 with a higher offer. Freo would be crazy to leave those options on the table

Need to take a lesson out of Hawks they kept their mouths shut until deals were done. Unsure why Mahoney has been talking so much.

Im gonna go into bat for Mahoney on this one, you really shouldn't go labelling without looking at it from all angles.

Just look at the Clubs we have been dealing with GC and Freo, do you really think they wouldn't leak like a sieve to all and sundry.

Hawks would have been tapping up Wingard, Scully and Scrimshaw for months on the sly.

That's how they operate.

For years Ross Lyon has been carping on to the media how the Dockers just need 2-3 more goals a game.

You're not alone Pates. It's not so much hating the club as it is their supporters and their arrogance and smugness. I enjoyed our SF win the most out of all our wins this year.

May the streak long continue!

It’s a solid rebuttal 55. I take my hat off to you as one of the rare posters who actually puts depth of thought into replies and general analysis.

Let’s see how it unfolds tomorrow. The drumroll has begun!

I wonder how long we've been talking to Steven May. I know we've had a demonland thread on him for almost 2 years, so his future availability has been known for a long time. But given he went to Melbourne grammar, and how readily he has unofficially nominated us, you'd think he may have a few connections inside the club and has been courted over time? Our recruitment of him will be another victory for and a testament to our newfound stability especially coming up directly against the recruiting forces of Hawthorn and Collingwood.

I believe that the trades have been agreed to but the AFL does not want the public to know because they want the info to be announced on the TV 'spectacular'.

Must have some sort of deal with Fox to make the broadcast a blockbuster.

This makes me sick if  true.

Everything is choreographed to our detriment.

I like Xavier O’Halloran or maybe Ned McHenry in that range. Maybe Curtis Taylor or Sam Sturt will be around, but with a couple of 2nd rounders and a couple of 3rds we must be some chance of getting into the 1st rd somewhere.

Question for yourself and the other talent watchers Chaser - this year's crop was initially hailed as a super-draft, then more recently there have been suggestions of a sharp drop-off after the front-end. If accurate, do you know roughly in AFL circles where the steep decline is expected, and what is your own opinion?

In the last quarter when Gunston got that free for taking out the legs, when they were coming hard at us. He missed the shot but up in the Olympic stand it looked like it went through. A couple of Hawks supporters in front of us jumped up and celebrated turning around really trying to rub all the Melbourne supporters noses in it. You think by the silence they would have worked out that he missed but no they were just loving being complete [censored]. I even had time to say to my sister, "wonder when someone will tell them that he missed" her reply "Let them go, this is Gold" ????

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
