Reported on SEN Pick 5 will get the deal done... Fu.k NO!

Maybe a Pick 49.

May and KK is gained for Hogan.

if we accept this we are push overs 2 years in a row!

That is a terrible deal if true

I’ll be disgusted if we fold for pick 5. The add ons of two second rounders, which was mooted earlier is fair to me.

But jeez I really hope those rumours are BS.

I just want whatever deals we need done to suit our wanted outcomes.

I'm not interested in the hystrionics , the spin , the bullshlt. I'm not particularly interested in screwing the other guys or taking their playlunch money.

I don't care whether we LOOK good bad or whatever at trading as long as we actually get what we came for. Everyone else can muck around with the window dressing. It's irrelevant.

It's not about winning trade week.. it's about successful outcomes for your/our club. What others end up doing is their preserve.

Only one game you actually want to WIN.....it's in September.

10 and 14 to Adelaide for Lever plus a second round pick? A steal, and great work by Mahoney, Viney and co.

Plenty of the rumours have been BS so far. No need to believe this one either.

Well Tinkerbell is on his way this morning.

Long way to come to get nothing done.

I hope we get what is fair.

The way I look at it is if Hogan is going to be getting a million a year a freo then they can cough up 2 first round picks

Agree 100%.  That’s the price they should pay.  He’s only 23 and is a chf/full forward.

It's been a long road with 10 posts per hour from you.

You've stuck your neck out here and I reckon it's about 67% chance to get the chop.

The deal is probably on unless Bell completely stuffs it up.

There are plenty of posters that one isn't enamoured with, and I'm sure I fit the bill for some, but this a-clown has almost completely ruined the most highly read thread on Demonland.

looks like there will be lots of cross demonlanders based on this rumour.  I am with Beelzebub on this one, if we get the end result that leads to September success I could not give two hoots about the minutae of the deal. It is not a pissing contest.

Many of us feel that way.

But if the two picks are for example, 11 and 16 there isn't much point if it doesn't get the May deal done.

I'm sure we could draft two very good players at 11 and 16 but that is not mfc's end game this year.  The end game is:  'Get May'.

There is a reason the club would be prepared to accept 23 as part of the deal.  For all we know the club could be indifferent on players available between pick 15 and 25 so we may get the player type we want at 23.  And by all accounts the draft falls away quickly after pick 7.

So I would rather 5 and 23 than two first round picks so we can 'Get May' and keep 23 for the draft (or pick upgrade).

That wasn't a "report".  That was just thrown up as a likelihood.  And they weren't drilling down, just having a chat.

Don't take any notice of lightweight conversations on SEN.

its also to remembered that footy is a business. and hogan is a blue chip in our organisation. as boring and lame as it sounds, he has worth and if we just bend over and give him away for nothing, even if we get in an ok backman and a who knows what second rounder, that is a loss. we need may and a really solid pick that is pretty much guaranteed to play all year and be a star. not some kid that we get at pick 27 or whatever, who might quit footy in a year after struggling with the speed of the game at casey..

it is a negotiation.

Mahoney strikes me as a pragmatic, outcome oriented person who approaches negotiations sans silly, aggressive posturing and unnecessary hyperbole.

That said, given:

- the history of Freo’s apparent desperation to land Hogan, and their clear need for a player like him;

- Hogan’s super rare talent, a fact acknowledged by everyone in the industry including coaches, players, commentators and journalists; and

- the trade history for lesser players,

anything less than two first round draft picks (at least one high end) would in my opinion be a pretty underwhelming trade for arguably our most prized player (in terms of trade value).

After all, we don’t actually need to trade him - Freo need to make the running on this. And, to date, their approach seems comical - it’s though Barry McKenzie has taken the reigns over there.

For a generational-type player, giving us picks to ensure we land May and some mid range first round draftee seems eminently reasonable. I genuinely can’t believe Freo’s stance on this - it’s been astonishingly amateur.

I’d do it just to avoid this circus continuing for another year and the risk of getting less next year (ie missing on May). We need all players as committed to success together as much as they are to their own needs. I don’t feel that Jesse is committted to team goals as our other young guns are.

it might mean more chance of getting a free agent next year and also more cash for keeping the rest of the youngsters happy as well

I hope he stays. If not then I trust the mfc. As some have said there is no such things as overs. There is only the market. Whatever we pay is market value.

The AFL are once again shooting themselves in the foot by purposely holding off on trades going through until their 2 hour TV finale.

This is how you alienate the fans.

Not since a certain poster with the initials RR has someone attempted to make theads entirely about himself.

It really does make the Ignore function a godsend...

Totally agree with you.

Has to be 5 and 11 with pick 33 returned to Freo. Otherwise this has been a waste if time.

It will be a waste of time if this entire process is repeated again next year over Jesse.

The only other option I see as palatable is if we already have an in principle agreement to send pick 5 and a 2nd rounder to Adelaide for picks 8 & 13.

This happens every year. I don’t think there is a vast conspiracy that gives us Peter Bell or Adrian Dodoro. It’s a small conspiracy - they’re D-heads...

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
