Neitz, Oliver is a young footballer at the start of his career. He plays a crash and bash style of game. 

What does this mean for his longevity in the game? 

How many shoulder operations of this kind can you do? 

Is the decision to undertake this procedure precautionary or an indication of the seriousness of the damage already done? For most of us, surgery is the last resort only undertaken if all other forms of treatment have failed or not going to fix the problem. Professional sport is another thing, but do you think this type of surgery is sensible or the answer at such a young age?

Sorry to hear it.  Guess it helps explain why Clarrie seemed to be missing a lot of handball targets in the past few weeks.  He certainly didn't seem to be the "same ole Clarrie".  Here's hoping for no complications, and a speedy, full recovery!!

WTF? Surgery on BOTH shoulders seem to indicate he is actually quite destructible.

If these are his numbers with two bad shoulders, he should be in for a decent year next year!

  • Clearances - 161 *
  • Tackles - 168 *

  • Assists - 18
  • Inside 50s - 111

I'd image tackling is the hardest action with crook shoulders, or perhaps overhead marking. Wayne Carey had crook shoulders & it didn't stop him being a gun.

Not in the early days, but he was very restricted toward the backend of his career. Had trouble taking contested marks above his head.  Despite his injuries he refused to rest his body insisting that he was OK to play each week probably to his detriment.

Clarry....you shouldn't try to carry the expectations of so many upon your shoulders!!

Nevertheless, looking longer term, it is important to get him right.

But as I understand the Latarjet is a lesser procedure than a full shoulder record ... is that correct?

Extraordinary effort and The Age article today stated that he was

first in the competition for contested possessions

second for tackles

third for clearances

You can’t do much better than that as a midfielder; they would be the top 3 KPI’s for most midfield coaches. Mitchell gets 28 votes, Clarrie gets 13 votes?

I don’t get why you keep referring to kryptonite and referring to it in the manner you are. The material itself is impervious to damage, particularly from heat vision.

All my experience with latarjet has been excellent. It is the definitive solution to instability, and whilst there is bone healing required that lengthens rehab, particularly in respect to contact and heavy resistance work, outcomes are unquestioned. Clarry’s running fitness will not be compromised (he’s advantaged there anyway), just his contact involvement delayed. Good news, and a smart long term approach, IMO.

    UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

    Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft.     Demonland Trackwatchers ventured down to Gosch's Paddock for the final week of training for the 1st to 4th Years until they are joined by the rest of the senior squad for Preseason Training Camp in Mansfield next week.
