I thought that was really weird.

I woudn't expect pruess to be there next year. He deserves a shot a senior ruck and he won't get it at Melbourne.

His stocks have gone through the roof with Saturday Twilights performance, would expect to be handsomely rewarded with a nice early 2nd rounder if he were to be traded.

or swap for a young promising winger who runs like the wind

On limited exposure, Preuss surely must be among the best second rucks in the league.

And he's not even our second ruck.

That said, we'd be kidding ourselves to hope for a 1st/ early 2nd round pick. History shows that players outside their teams best 22 simply don't carry that sort of value (even talls). Unless he plays (and plays well) every game for the rest of the year, we'd get a pick in the 30-50 range. He's worth more to us as Gawn/Jackson insurance IMO.

I like the idea ... but I have a feeling that having one of Preuss or Gawn forward the whole game will have a detrimental impact on our forward pressure.  Obviously TMac does not have great speed or agility but I feel he would do better than either of the ruckman at finding his man / running to the right spot in the zone etc.

Potentially also messes with Weid's role because he's currently playing out of the goal square most of the match -  can't imagine max or preuss playing CHF

Tommy is getting better each game and the ruck assist role suits him. Handy around ground and was so close to clunking 2 or 3 on Sat near the square.

Dogs smaller deference opens up our chances fir the taller marking fir Weid and Tommy

Jackson Hately for Preuss?

crows into hately in a big way

we are in the fortunate position that he's contracted to us, is clearly good enough to be a starting ruck for about half of the sides in the competition (crows, bears, peptides, dockers, geelong, gw$, hawks, richmond, sydney), and as such should be in high demand at the end of the season

A lot of teams need a ruckman. They're not only getting slaughtered in the ruck but around the ground.  The 2020 Svelte and Lithe Preuss showed more than enough there.

Eg. GWS. Jacobs and Mumford are total rubbish. They average less than 8 touches and less than 2 marks a game. Its like they are playing with 17 on the ground.  A 25 yr old Preuss would be a huge upgrade for them.

Im not sure we get much value from a late 2nd or third in a compromised draft so id be in favour of packaging and swapping him for a young fast junior who we may have liked from previous drafts but cant get a run for whatever reason.

Gws have all sorts of problems with their cap if they sign Cameron and Williams.  Jackson Hately, Caldwell etc

With Jackson as Gawn's back up, much rather have a backup/developing dashing midfielder than a back up ruckman from 2021 onwards.

Preuss steps in to play a hugely important role in our most critical and convincing win in close to two years. Demonlanders gather around to discuss his trade value.

Well said Skuit!

Also, doesn't anyone remember that every MFC player was apparently in that big pre-season set-shot goal kicking contest?   Who won?   PRUESS won!

Pruess is a very, very good kick.

(but i guess we don't need that do we?)

People are just being realistic, as he will likely request  a trade.

Why would he hang around to play at Casey all of 2021?

I'm a bit guilty of that, although I tried to put it out there that for me to be happy with the deal, it would have to be a large price to get it over the line.  As he showed on Saturday night, he can come in and play a role for us, and play that role very well.

It would turn the heads of other clubs who might be on the look out to improve their ruck stocks.   But, he is contracted to us and I'm happy to keep him unless a club falls over themselves with a deal that is too good to turn down.

For the same reason he joined us in the first place?

Yep. I wouldn’t trade him this year. With Jackson out for 6 weeks Preuss has the chance to play some serious games

Well then why did he sign with us in the first place?

As much as I love Max, he will be 29 at the end of the year, with 2 knee recos behind him.

Jacko looks great as a ruck/forward, but is still only 18.

It's not impossible that after two more seasons Preuss could find himself 1st ruck with us and playing finals.

Clearly he arrived knowing he'd be 2nd fiddle to Max, and made it clear he wanted to learn from the best.

He's an infectious, enthusiastic and popular character at the club.

Definitely a keeper.

Like the big Preuss.  Has got a good competitive and hard/aggressive  streak to him.

His marking around the ground was pretty good for us against the Pies.  Remembering that one of the initial thoughts behind getting him, was as a backup ruck who could also play as second ruck and second key forward.

It's now almost a similar predicament to how things were a few weeks back with Jacko in the side and playing well - can we play all of Gawn, Preuss, T Mac and Weid in the same side?

His previous lumbering running action and lack of mobility didn't stand out to me against the Pies and I do wounder if he has slimmed down and got fitter?

We got Preuss for Dom Tyson. To think Preuss has played 8 games to Tysons 3 since that trade.

I also think he's worth more to us that other clubs right now, without sufficient exposed AFL form, so the trade probably wouldn't happen. He is there because we need mature cover for Gawn while we think there is a genuine chance of finals/premiership. But then with Jackson coming on, maybe he isn't that critical and we would consider taking overs for him.

I'd want a 2021 or 2022 first rounder for him.  2020 first round could be an even bigger lucky dip than normal.

I'd compare him to Marc Pittonet;  a solid ruckman who is decent depth. He was traded for pick 61 in the 2019 draft for picks 54 and 63. I'd expect something similar for Pruess. Clubs won't pay high for a ruckman who is currently 3rd in the pecking order.

North Melbourne are spewing they kept Goldy, could have gotten a first around pick for Goldy, and still have a good ruckman in Preuss, I wonder if we could trade back to them, for late first round to early second round pick ?
