Love the message and photo montage of the team behind Bernie.

Definition ofย esprit de corps

:ย the common spirit existing in the members of a group and inspiring enthusiasm, devotion, and strong regard for the honor of the group.

The culture this club is fostering is making me very proud to be an MFC member and rabid supporter.
Thanks to Bernie for playing such an integral part in the complete turnaround in the club.

Such an exciting time. ??

Correct, unless they find a part time role that suits him, a la Robbo, use his off field personality

Put a dozen comfy chairs in the MCG and you pay to sit, watch the game and drink beer with Bernie, could be a good money spinner. Iโ€™d be keen, reckon Bernie would be too.

Was trying to think who it was that Bernie reminded me of and then last night I turn on the MVP awards and there is Terry Daniher sitting with Gerard, Robbo and Derm.ย  TD was universally admired, a great bloke, loved by his team mates and could tell a great story.ย  He alsoย was a total pro on the field and as Dermott said, the most competitive bloke he ever played against.ย  Sounds a lot like Bernie and he couldn't be in better company.

I'll always remember Bernie fondly. He chose to come to us when we were a struggling club and really bought in to doing his bit to improve us. He played some elite football in the red and blue too, winning our BnF and playing his role as a tagger and defender as his career progressed. He's a really laid back guy, and very likeable character who always seemed to bring positivity to the club. It's a shame he's retiring, but the time is right.ย

Best of luck to him and hopefully we see his kids run around in red and blue in a few decades time.ย ย

โ€œOne of your favouriteโ€ - in the esteemed company of Heretier Lumumba, Chris Heffernan and Mitch Clark, right?

Oooo those three just get pipped by Ingerson and Hibbo, Nasher. Only just.

Bernie well done, thanks 'n hoping on you'll be drinking from the big cup this year, either on or off field

The smiling assassin. Absolute legend of a bloke. Will be missed, but his legacy lives on in a club that has now become tougher,ย more fierceย and more respected due to his efforts on field.ย

The weekend at Bernieโ€™s on Dangerfield has to have been one of the most satisfying games Iโ€™ve ever seen.ย

He really gave our players a social licence to back themselves in and make themselves accountable.ย

ย

Best of luck Bernie!

If Max can get be in the media each week surely thereโ€™s a role for Bernie somewhere.

Also been part of the modern game and strategies unlike many in the media still going around.

Come on Fox thereโ€™s only so much Dermie I can take.

BUMP.ย  Just to acknowledge Bernie has played his last game in red and blue.

Its all been said on previous pages - thanks for coming to us when we crap.ย  And thanks for giving us your all and helping build the team we have today.ย  Roos' praise of the experience and strength you brought to our team is much deserved.

My most memorable Bernie moment - running best mate Danger into the Adelaide turf!ย

I really hope we offer him a position within the club.

Thanks for your service Bernard!

Was an elite run-with player for a good while there, and will leave a massive hole in terms of culture, driving standards and a cool head when many around him are losing theres.

He's going to be on Front Bar this Friday - reckon it will be tuning in for that

Smiling assassin is a good name.

Always surprised me how tough he was. He looked a relaxed kind of guy on the field until out of the blue, he would go whack.ย

He was the beginning of the tough new edge the club has developed, the "don't mess with us" attitude.

I love our improvement but most of all I love our new breed of tough young footballers who will stand up and give back in spades to aggressive opponents.ย ย ย ย

I'm speculating here, but I wonder if Kent, Hogan, Tyson and AVB were some of the players that didn't appreciate being played out of position earlier in 2018.

I hope esprit de corps continues to strength the spirit within the group and with a couple leaving the club, I hope the boys solidify their commitment to each other like the Geelong and Hawthorn sides of the recent past.

Seriously doubt AVB was played out of position early in 2018.

Unless he wanted midfield minutes...

He wasnโ€™t playing early 2018 and I would thinkย ย he would have been thrilled to make the 22 in the lead up to the finals.

Kent wasn't played out of position, he just wants more security and more time in the midfield.ย  ย Does he have the tank and the ability to play through there?ย  He wasn't getting a chance with us.ย  He might see himself as a mid, but he's always been a high half forward to me.

Tyson still played through the middle, but with the rise of Brayshaw and Harmes, found himself pushed out.ย  From all reports he is very happy at Melbourne and us supporters seem to be the ones pushing for a trade.

Hogan still had the chance to kick almost 50 goals this year, and his tank meant he could play up the ground.ย  I hardly think he would be disappointed with the role he was given.ย  Same goes for AVB.

I just think for two of them it's more security with longer deals apparently being offered, for one it's the go home factor and a big contract and the other one seems happy at the club regardless.ย ย

I know he was injured. Might point was across 2018 at all. I only heard there was frustration earlier in the year.

But obviously I'm speculating, with very little to go on.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didnโ€™t just beat Gold Coast โ€” they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharpย

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lionsโ€™ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Letโ€™s be honest, last weekโ€™s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper โ€” second versus seventeenth โ€” football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
