McQueen 17,867 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Great comments by everyone - I have little to add. Just a very pleasing result. We showed today that our pressure and subsequent clearance work today is finals level stuff. James Harmes continues my man-crush. Just superb. Quote
Bang Bang Bang 5,875 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 (edited) One of the most clinical displays of footy I've ever seen from our mob. I'd probably have to go back to 1998 to remember the last time we genuinely played champagne footy like today. Make no mistake - GWS ARE A GOOD SIDE. Arguably the best side in it since the bye, and we made them look like amateurs. I thought after the Sydney game that maybe Goodwin won't be our next Premiership coach, a Dean Bailey type if you will. But now I think he's more likely than unlikely. 14-8 and VERY unlucky not to win 16 or 17 with all the close losses along the way. Harmes playing like Dustin Martin, Frost playing like Alex Rance on steroids, Max doing absolutely everything right including two long chases on GWS players when the game was over. Spargo belying his stature with amazing ferocity and decision making. Lewis showing exactly why we signed him, both on field and off (see Herald Sun: email article). Having an actual Sherman tank on the fileld (vandenberg). McDonald kicking 48 in 17 games out of nowhere. Weideman playing well out of nowhere! It will hurt losing to those smarmy, arrogant wankers from Geelong, especially if it's a close encounter again. But whatever happens to here, 2018 gets a big tick. If we can wipe the smirks off Chris Scott, Selwood and Dangerfield's faces, then even better! Edited August 26, 2018 by No Plan B 9 Quote

Demon trucker 1,800 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 The top 4 is the weakest 1 I have every seen, hawthorn smashed by lions twice, collingwood only beat 1 team in the top 8, Richmond have to go into 4th gear this finals, but they should smash the Hawks, Geelong are no good, every time any team has given them pressure, they fold, twice this year we where the better team for 3 out of the 4 Qrts. Captain Todd 171 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Long tinme reader and proud Demonlander tshirt owner, get on board................. Loved the game today, with my 6yo next to me. He sat through the whole game for the first time! OMac, great game, growing in confidence and kicking is better. Gawn, he is one for the ages. Trac, pull his head in, then he snaps the goal. He did it a couple of times. AVB, solid, the way he bumped Harmes to change trajectory then kick Inside 50 was brilliant. Its like he playing dodgem cars. ANB, my favourite, is hard working and gets around it. Can someone tell how many goals he's kicked this year. My condolences to J. Hogan as the 3 goals to TMac, and he took the goal kicking trophy. 4 2 Quote

Terrific pressure all over the ground. Excellent defence: Looks like we have virtually abandoned the high zone and stopped the 1 or 2 behind the square. Much more 1 vs 1. We are following a more traditional 6 x 6 x 6 game structure. Works a treat! Fantastic effort being 2 down players down. Composure +++ . Add we kept playing till the very last minute Great game plan modifications by coaches and equally good execution by players. Finals @ the G here we come! Couldn't have said it better LH. Great summary. I feel Goody & Co (and hence the team) have finally taken a leap forward, especially in regards to the high zone and re-jigging the running of 1 or 2 players into the middle off the back of the square in favour of the 6 x 6 x 6 structure as mentioned. We have finally said to the opp we are playing this to our strengths, if you can beat us in our key asset areas, especially winning the middle clearances (first use) and the stoppages, you have a chance and well done. But given those strengths, on balance we will win most arm wrestles and the match, in some cases by substantial margins (a la today) just through weight of numbers. Composure and momentum at times was a hell of a lot better then i've seen (in terms of more players doing it more often and across most of the match) all year. Still some fine tuning but it's a massive step forward i feel. Some fabulous "wins" today also in terms of stepping it up in Vanders (not just today more in terms of putting more quality game time in and rebuilding the AFL tank), Weids, Spargo and Tracc (IMHO). We now have a genuine bunch of footballers playing AFL finals brand football as a unified team who are slowly learning to make smarter decisions (in general) as each match progresses. We also have 10 players in the 50 to 100 mark who have plenty of learning & upside to go as they move into top end experienced / veteran categories in the coming decade! Exciting times ahead. Go the Mighty Demons! Edited August 26, 2018 by Rusty Nails 3 1 Quote
loges 6,767 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Actually thought the tackling intensity from both sides was below par early then we upped the ante about half way through the 2nd quarter and away we went. Quote
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Close to the perfect game. Shattered to for Kent and Tyson but was brilliant the way we controlled the game despite being two players short. Going to thoroughly enjoy the next two weeks. Quote

nosoupforme 3,085 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Geelong played 2 bruised free football games at the cattery against 2 lowly interstate sides and both were beaten by over 100 plus points. That means they had 2 training runs around the witches hats cheered on by there supporters sipping champagne and some others being farmers they had their glass of milk. We played 2 inform sides in WCE and GWS and beat them with sheer toughness. The Cats will be ducking for cover because we will come out like Demons and we will give them HELL! See you at the G. 3 Quote

dees189227 12,527 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 On the email from Jordy, Viney was on mmm today and just mentioned Lewis sent an email to the boys saying boys its time to get to work and you don't get satisfaction from making finals you get it from winning them so lets get to work. Was asked if there was some banter or jokes about it but Viney said it was serious and when Jordan get serious you don't joke with him. I guess that's why it helps having a 4 time premiership player in your team to feed off and get info off. 12 Quote

Go the Mighty Demons! The improvement in footy IQ in the last 4 weeks or so has been amazing. We are now playing some tempo footy, moving forward but lowering the eyes and looking for options, thinking our way forward with possessions rather than just bang it forward at any cost, and at times just chipping the ball around to retain possession. Although we could get much better at this, retaining possession and soaking up time. 6 Quote
