i picked him to be a most improved player on here about 3 years ago. He showed a bit of extra flash in a couple of his early games.

Took him a while to find his grunt, but he has shown us a lot this year

the number 4 sits well

I picked Harmes as our most improved this year - and even I'm not getting that carried away. Brayshaw easily takes that title. I'm chuffed for GBH's late-season improvement though.

Absolutely insane the level he has gone to. So much more dynamic and moving as well as ever.

Absolute gun. Plays like Dusty with his fend offs, toughness and kicking skills. Big reason for our improvement in recent times

To nullify a superstar like Josh Kelly and impact the way he did was just insane.  He shaded Max for BOG imo.

Second half of this season he has developed into a legitimate weapon. He used to try the fend offs and get caught, now he's breaking through everything like Dustin Martin! He's got decent speed and is aggressive with his run both offensively and defensively. Credit to him and the coaching staff for his development this year. Sensational to see a born and bred Dee thriving to take us the next step!

He and Brayshaw are the 2 most improved by a long way....

Terrific game... He set the tone for the day. That’s for sure!

His best game for the club today. His improvement has been phenomenal.

Harmes is almost at Elite levels, sounds crazy but that’s what it feels like. The crowd buzzes with excitement every time he touches the ball now.

He's going to make it very hard for Gawn and Oliver to win a Brownlow over the next few years.

That I can cope with, winning GF appearances is what is important to me who wins the midfielders award is low on list of desires.

Is this the secret to Harmes' recent success:  “...If I start on someone — [Josh] Kennedy or [Joel] Selwood or those types — they usually lead me to the ball, and once I’m around the ball I’m usually pretty good at winning the ball.” https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-2018-james-harmes-lifts-the-lid-on-the-email-that-set-the-tone-for-melbourne/news-story/c9d87c489445df79dcbd8ff942601927

Harmes seems so much stronger this year.  He has developed a really solid build and can shrug off just about anyone.  A Dusty Martin in the making, sort of.

Love that he is a life long Demon supporter and now wearing the red and blue in finals.  He has come a very long way since being rookied!

Only 22 as well. If we keep developing talent like Harmes, we will be scary good in the next couple years

Totally agree, LT!!  The kid has taken it to a new level and is now setting up play doing the things that got him caught not that long ago.  He's become a real beast!  And, he takes out the oppo's best midfielder, while winning heaps of ball himself.  (Did Kelly play yesterday?? LOL)

A lifelong Dees supporter now living the dream and playing a big part in taking the team into the Finals.  And, he wears my favourite #4, too!

What a star!!

Since the broken bone in his hand, Harmes has been magnificent. Hope the same cause and affect will work with Tyson.

I was thinking the same thing.  It was the game he played with the glove that I really noticed he was at a new level.  Strange coincidence.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
