Remember the ridiculous hype over NicNat's so-called 'point of the century'?

Well what about this ripping goal by Robbie against Richmond at the 1.50min mark of this tribute video?

He's out of position in a marking contest in the centre of the ground, effects the spoil and prevents a certain Tigers mark, keeps his feet and is first to the ball, sharks it over an opponent, streams through CHF and dobs it from outside 50m. 

As Bobby Skilton says in the commentary, it's football at its very best.

NicNat sharked his ball from the ruck - look at where Robbie was in the contest, and how quickly he regains his balance. 

Amazing.

Are you still in school, SWYL?  I thought you might have graduated by now.

Robbie was the most under rated player in VFL/AFL history, he was a star, and should have one 10 Brownlows and more.

 Always a legend for me as well SWYL.

Players of Robbies talent would be even better today, just imagine him on the outside of our current inside ball winners.

We know Hogan and Tmac would be smiling every time he hit them on the chest

I'm under 40, obviously never saw him play, when i first started watching VFL footy, i use to watch the winners on ABC around 86/87.

I dont remember a great deal with me being so young 5-6 y.o but he still was running around, Robbie is one of those players that transcends time, would still be a star today, God bless him.?

thanks for sharing Grapeviney.  I unfortunately never got to see him play.

Nevermind about the lack of Brownlow, a lot of the  best ever players never won one - it is a flawed award.

Looks like he is playing a different game to everyone else!  As a side note, I would like to see quick, skillful players encouraged to take players on more. I know Robbie is a once off but I'd like to see more skill encouraged in the AFL rather than just running and structures blah blah

Robbie is the greatest player I have ever seen play for the MFC . When asked who is the best player you have seen I say Flower although I do consider Ablett snr  nearly equal. 

He made going to the football bearable during the dark days pre-1987. The clip reminds me of just how good he was to watch.

He's not the best player* I've seen, but he was clearly the most watchable.

(*Matthews, followed by Carey, Ablett Sr and Ablett Jr, then Flower)

What a player!!  I still find it impossible to comprehend he is no longer with us.

Grade 2 was the best 6 years of his life

Almost impossible to tackle, suffered vote wise from playing in a poor side.

Should have changed the B Medal to FLOWER Medal

Thoroughbred Genius - use whatever superlative you like. Feel privileged to see many of his games and blessed that he was a demon.

From all reports as good a footballer as he was, he was also a top bloke.

The one reason for going to the G in the 70’s and early 80’s was to watch Robbie battle the entire opposition often single handed ... no shirking no whinging just grace .. full forward one week, centre half back the next then rover winger full back...the only one I ever saw come near him was Jesaulenko...

I loved Robbie ... 

My son was a friend of one of his daughters. He met Robbie, went to his house. I'm so jealous.

A certain will of the wisp player would be embarrassed in his presence, if he were to be next to him... such was robbies fearless total commitment to winning the footy.

He would go where many could not,,, and wouldn't.

Flower, then daylight to Jackovic, The Whizz, then daylight to Lyon, Schwarz, Jimmy, Robbo over the last 60 years for me.

The only time I ever saw him lower his colours, was to Malcolm Blight.  playing on Blight as Blight played CHF.

Blight was too strong for him, on that day.

I remember him being caught in the mud at Moorabin once.
Notable 'cause I saw never anyone get him before.

Also missed 50odd games through injury which wrecked a couple brownlows for him.
Remember he got second or 3rd one year after missing 6 games.
