where would one start:

Carlton..2016

Collingwood ...2017

St Kilda ... 2018

We could go on all day too couldn’t we? That’s the sad part.

I want this to be true but the amount of times i can remember the dees getting complacent before 'easy' matches and then stuffing up is too overwhelming. I hope that the demons of old don't turn up at the ground today and as you say we do emerge as a premiership threat.

Same - at some point things change .

Worrying lack of respect for the opposition here today.  Melbourne supporters, more than anyone else in world sport, should know that no win is ever certain.

The following wooden spooners have beaten us in my time following the club:

We drew with Sydney in ‘92 and lost to them in 93 and 94, lost to Western Bulldogs 03, Carlton twice in 06, Richmond in 07, West Coast in 2010, GWS in 2013, StKilda in 2014, Carlton in 2015, and the Essendon reserves in 2016.

We missed the finals with final round losses to Brisbane in 95 and Collingwood in 2017.

StKilda ran all over us this year, in a match where the final score did not reflect the extent of their dominance.

Talk of ‘record’ scores and margins is very premature.  We should respect every contest and bring 100% ever time we play.

How much do you reckon Clayton Oliver gives a toss about that?

Hopefully he is 100% aware of respecting every opponent and knows that if you assume a game is in the bag, you’ll get rolled.

So... I hope he gives a toss about it.

Round 19 2016 Melbourne vs Gold Coast

nearly lost when we should have beaten them by a lot more than 2 points.

i know we have changed and matured a lot since then but gee i hope not to see a repeat.

You have to be concerned with ‘winning margin’ as this game is the only chance we have to increase our percentage. Although we currently have a healthy percentage (second highest), the teams around us are closing the gap and, at the end of the season, it may well prove the difference in finishing Top Four or even scraping into the Final Eight!

With 3 rounds to go there won't be a team below us who is within 20 goals of our percentage (assuming we win by 5 goals or more today).

That leaves 3 games for either Collingwood, Hawthorn, or Geelong to close a 20 goal gap.  To play finals we'll need to win at least one of our remaining 3, so in all likelihood we cancel out one of the other teams 3 games.

An injury depleted Collingwood will need to catch up 30 goals in their remaining 3 games.

Hawthorn will need to catch up 20 goals and they play Geelong and Sydney in Sydney.

Geelong will need to catch up 27 goals in their 3 games, including a game against arch foe Hawthorn.

You make a valid point, however, I'm very comfortable suggesting that no team below us after today's game will have a hope in Haiti of catching our percentage.

Is this taking into account the % we will lose losing any remaining games?

Geelong do play Freo and GC at home...

Want a big game from Vanders to ensure he plays next week against Sydney. Frosty to continue to build consistency in his game and no injuries.

My anxiety stems from this worry about the team:

How long can we do without Pedo in the game, given the very long period of his ascendancy and great form with Casey - and his well-known attributes to defend, attack, mark, kick, slaughter, maim, shepherd, screen, appear from nowhere, intimidate, punish and win games? Pedo, Frosty and AVB - in form, raging, ready.

Probably. I'm all for respecting your opponent on the day, but as a supporter what I think means nothing to the results. I'm not going to get torn up over being optimistic and neither should you. It makes things more fun.

I love Pedersen but he just doesn't have a place in the team.

As a third tall up front ... it just doesn't work.

Down back ... he's not quick enough on the rebound. Sure he can take a mark but defence is so much more these days.

Yeah, why are we caring if other supporters think this will be an easy win or not? What I write on this forum isn’t going to impact on the result! Dees by 150

If by some diabolical bad luck Gawn goes down we need him to step up. Essential spare parts.

See your point

But gives me comfort knowing he's there as an option should we need him

If they are in it at 3/4 time then they will truly believe, need to blast them in the first quarter and make them despondent and go through the motions.

I reserve the right to disrespect the opposition all I like. It has absolutely no effect on the outcome other than my own mood if I’m wrong.

They’re crap and we should smash them.

I'd love to see a dominant first quarter, blowing them off the park.

I'm expecting to see a skill-error filled first quarter with a small lead, followed by much stronger second and third quarters.

Historic day coming up guys. First time in VFL/ AFL history that 4 players in one team will get 5 goals each in one game. You heard it here first.

If some supporters expect a big win, they get called arrogant and that they are taking the opposition too lightly,  and are told that attitude is what is wrong with the club.

If some supporters are concerned we're could lose, or are satisfied with any win or a good effort,  they are told that attitude is what is wrong with the club.

Basically, this is what is willing with the club.

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
