Am I the only one that thinks Jeffy didn't perform that well last week? Particularly in defensive pressure?

Spending a lot more time upfield around the wing in recent weeks, even spending 25% of his time v Geel in the defensive half. I wonder if this is a ploy by Goodwin to get him up the ground to get him in the game? I'd prefer to see him crumbing and snagging goals with added and perceived in the F50. Just the 6 goals from 4 games on his return.

All Garlett has to do defensively is ‘enough’ - we have no one like him offensively and considering how many inside 50s we get, he is so valuable for what he brings on offensively.

AVB (if he is cherry ripe) for Milkshake seems logical.

I haven't liked Spargo of late. Flashy but neither consistent nor damaging enough for mine. I'm not writing him off as he is still a developing kid but I'm not sure that say Kent or maybe even Bugge  wouldn't be more suitable coming into the pointy end of the year.

VandenBurg named on a half forward flank to replace Melksham.

The extended bench is listed below. I'd play the ones bolded, so essentially Joel Smith replaced by Hunt.
Christian Petracca
Charlie Spargo
Dean Kent
Cameron Pedersen
Jayden Hunt
Alex Neal-Bullen
Timothy Smith
Joel Smith

Caleb Daniel and Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti are shorter than Spargo.

Dayne Zorko, Paul Puopolo, Dion Prestia, Willie Rioli, Lewis Taylor, Eddie Betts, Hayden Ballantyne and Jack Lonie, amongst others, are all the same height as him.

Allen Christensen, Orazio Fantasia, Jade Gresham, Billy Hartung, Jack Higgins, Rory Laird, Lachie Neale, Tom Papley, Cyril Rioli, Michael Walters and Devon Smith, amongst others, are all just one inch taller than him.

Your argument that he is "too short" is completely unfounded.

He has played 11 games and is still 18.  Give him a bit more time to show what he can do.

Our fwd line is still a bit like Brown's cows.  I reckon Charlie will improve as those around him sort themselves out.

It would be strange if Hunt comes straight in based on the fact he couldn’t get a game before he was injured.

A pretty meaningless argument.

Spargo's 18 and played 11 games. He's shown more than enough in that time to suggest he can emulate what McDonald-Tipungwuti, or Caleb Daniel, or a host of those other players have been capable of.

Our weakness is the way we bring the ball into 50,  so Jeffy should be able to help in that mid area of the ground, and maybe find someone his own size to tackle??? maybe.

I’d like to see Hogan have a rest and Bull take his place this week. Hogan looked really proppy last week. Vanders, welcome back mate. 2 years of diligent rehab, tear them a new one on Sunday. JKH earned his spot, would be nice to see him and Jeffy both kick 4.

He's shown a bit but to keep getting a game he needs to stick his tackles.

At the moment he doesn't have the physical strength and/or leg speed of the others you've mentioned above.

Being short he does need other attributes and for mine as a first year player he doesn't have them yet...

That's ok.

It maybe time to go back to Casey and build up over the preseason.

He also needs to better time his high 5’s with the KPF lining up for goal so he doesn’t look silly ??

just on bringing the ball into the 50 (at times it feels like at all costs) - aside from Lewis's two goals and Melksham's one - I have a vibe that we would be one of the teams with the lowest amount of goals from beyond 50 this year - anyone know of a good stat's site where I could draw this info from?

Must be in the eye of the beholder as I actually thought that was his best  game since he came back......no way at the top of his game but a distinct improvement ?

I'd go with Petracca, ANB, Smith J., and Hunt.

I thought Spargo looked a bit tired against the Crows.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
