Yes, and in the after game coverage with Darcy and Richardson in the Melbourne rooms, Hogan was standing in the background the whole time laughing and joking with a group of young supporters, which seemed good of him to give them so much of his time post-game, and he seemed happy!

I saw this as well and thought it was great. The young fella he was chatting to had the 1 on his back, and from memory those at clinics and family days have said Jesse is very approachable and friendly.

I think that, sometimes we forget that Jesse is only 23. He is still a few years off his peak, and consistency will be part of that.

Spargo wasn’t great but I’d stick with him next week for that small forward pressure.

Not sticking tackles though, so very limited to no real pressure.

He's the only out I see (probably no change though) and agree with 'chook' that Smith's likely to stay in until Hibberd is ready.

The bye for Casey could not have come at a worse time. We had one about now last year.

It can really kill the momentum for players trying to break into the senior side.

Had AVB played a blinder I suspect we would have seen him next week but my guess is no change.

A few slipped tackles last night yes, but personally seen enough to give him another shot.

Who could come in for him? Bugg?

If Hogan’s fit he’ll play, no rest required

I think Smith will become a very handy player in time. Sure he made some mistakes but he did some good clean things as well. He’s going well. Not everyone’s first 50 is going to be like Oliver........oh my how good is this kid!

If hogan isnt chronically sore he needs to play. The boys need to apply themselves and win, and if they do it could be a good opertunity for a confidence boosting haul for Hogan

Has too many slip but he's excellent at picking the right opponent and the right moment to pressure and he has the speed and agility to get on guys quickly. Doesn't hold his tackles when bigger guys come straight at him but will chase down pretty well.

I also think if Vanders is going to be the in I wouldn't bring him in straight after he's had a bye. Another game of match fitness and a chance to shake off the bye week rust could be important.

Line-ball, but I'd go the other way DSpence (assuming the MC reckon Vanders can run out most of a game).  The oppo have been walking through Sparg's tackles for a few weeks now, and that won't happen with Vanders.  Give him a run now I reckon, so he has time to 'acclimatize' and build into September, assuming we make it that far.  His experience, body size and pressure will be an invaluable in finals.

As I recall Gil played Amateur football VAFA :  the feeder competition, VFL, being allowed to continually have multiple byes in a season is one more example of a professional  grade competition being run by amateurs.

Good call DOF

VandenBerg has a huge upside and maybe it is time to roll the dice and see what he can give us.   I am 100% certain he will give his all.

At this stage no he doesnt. But the Carlton doc can hit him with a "delayed coma" like they did with Hogans tap on Rowe

10 weeks on a like for like basis.

I think at some point Goody is going to unleash Vanders, whether it is this week or next we need his hardness and tackling pressure. If we are going to come close to Richmond we need hard bodies like Vanders.

In a football sense this gives me a hard on having him in our forward line, spearheading our assault on a flag.

He'll be a bulldozer bullocking around the paddock taking out all and sundry.

He's got a lot going for him 'Dee' but at the moment they're almost picking him out and running over the top of him.

...and lets face it, they're all bigger guys. I'm sure the FD are doing their cost benefit and so far he stays but for how much longer?

Vanders is being talked up and he certainly brings some toughness but many might be forgetting his disposal & decision making can be a bit suspect. Spargo is generally good in this area of the game.

Cost/Benefit...

In Lever, out Smith.

In Viney, out Spargo.

In Hibberd, out JKH (with Fritsch playing further up the ground).

I rate Hannan more than most on Demonland, and reckon if his body is right he can be a handy goal-kicker, so I'd be keen to bring him in. I'm not ready to pull the trigger on AVB and feel that absence has made the heart grow fonder as far as the popular perception. (That, and the fact he was initially reported to have 17 tackles, and then every other outlet said he had 10).

I don't rate JKH at all, but he did do some good things in the second half v Adelaide and if the Club thinks he may be a player, now's probably the time to stick fat and see if what he needed to make it was some confidence he can impact at AFL level. Spargo was fairly ineffective and right at the minute I don't rate him in our best 22, with the caveat that he's young.

Jesse looked really off this weekend, I know he was crook through the week and he copped it on the knee and ankle at one point. If we’re confident enough in TMac to hold down the forward line and that Pedders can fill the role strongly enough I think we should rest him.

I know it’s a dangerous precedent to do especially given our history of stuff things up vs lowly teams but if he isn’t right than give him that extra time to get right.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
