Don't expect the ruck bloodbath predicted. I expect Stanley to contest the bounce and throw ins and jump into Max constantly and Blicavs to hadow Max wherever he goes around the ground. Henderson, Kolodjasnij and Stewart will take on Tommy and Jess.

All coaches agree that Scott is the hardest tactcian to take on. I hope Jennings and Goody have plotted a surprise for him as he set the win up in round 1 with their first half tactics that blew our defence away.

Bernie named as rover suggests he will be tagging someone and I hope it is Danger and he gets right in his face, legally of course.

To be fair, that would be the case even if we didn't have Tyson in the side.

IMO, if Tyson is going to have a good game this year, this is a possibility for it. Narrower ground (so less likely to get caught out on the turnover and spread from the opposition), a spot to play pretty much entirely in the guts (the only chance he has of playing a strong four-quarter game), and a slower midfield than others (I don't think Dangerfield, Selwood, Alblett, Duncan, Guthrie and Kelly are as pacy as, say, St Kilda's midfield).

Not sure what Kennedy-Harris brings to the team. He plays like a deer in headlights. He is enigma he tackles like a vice but shirks physical contact in one on one marking situations.

He was looking good at training. No fumbling, players falling off when they tackled, hitting targets. Want him to take the next step. I think he is working hard to get there. Tracca for a blinder against the old stars.

I was right behind the line of play for that 50m penalty. Melksham ran 15m wide of the mark and lost his man by playing it safe and staying so far away from the mark. They still pinged him and he blew his stack.

Gobsmacking by the umps and a goal to st Kilda at a critical stage.

They need to pay these guys as proper professionals  and drop them out to the country games when they fup.

Why can't  the media scutinise umpires form like they do players?

The gap between our best and worst is a chasm.  

We just look so slow.

Cats balance across the ground from grunt, talls and outside speed looks so much better as does their finishing skills. 

Coaching wise, Scott and his team have the advantage. They will have had a very close look at the Dees and have their plans in place. I wish I had the same confidence in Goodwin and his team. 

And the umps will be totally intimidated by the Geelong crowd. 

If we get close it will be a surprise, if we win it will be a miracle !

i have little confidence in the strategic and tactical coaching competence of our coaching staff

There is a situation that comes most recently to my mind having carefully watched the game last week against the Doggies within an assemblage of very keen footballing addicts who were astounded at umpiring decisions and interference with game flow across the first half of the match.

If it were not for the umpires and the deliberately challenging and incorrect decisions made in the first and second quarters of the match last week at the MCG against the Fleabags, the Dees would have been around 9-10 goals ahead at the half-time break. It did not result in a loss, thankfully, as the switch was turned on by the magnificent three: Gawn, Oliver and Brayshaw. At any rate, such play fully negated the umpires' intents - particularly those of Razor Ray - where any umpiring disagreements with what the Dees were doing from the 6 minute mark of the third quarter to the last gasp of the final quarter would have been far too obvious to intercede - and to get a cop at the loot next week - anyway, they had already 'evened up' the game as much as they could! 

NB: Razor is the new Nurayev of the 'G - his graphically elaborate crouch, delayed two-arm swing and gracious footwork that points his bum to heaven (when calling a 'incorrect disposal') is a sight to behold. His decision-making is just as absurdly constructed.

You and the other posters fail to recognise the inherent randomness of our great game.Humans constantly make errors. Missed kicks, dropped marks, and yes umpiring decisions.  Then there’s the  bounce of the ball, the umpires bounce, the ground size and surface, the  temperature, the wind, the rain, shadows, sun  the stops players use, and a host of other random chaotic events. Singling out umpires mistakes and saying that’s why a team won or lost fails to see the big picture. I hope your life isn’t this narrow

Be assured that it (life) is not narrow. Identifying error assists in the interpretation but moreso the amelioration of the game so that we  may all face an even playing environment wherein anomolies and repetitive inconsistencies are reduced for the benefit of the general public and the game itself. From that groundswell - already identified on this wonderful DL site - opinion and its description may also flourish under those benchmarks that we are pleased to apply as filters to our tools of interpretation, and ultimately our satisfaction with the spectacle. Each contributor is free to comment and contribute - within the bounds of good intent - their own ideas and to meet at the philosophical level on common grounds expressed in a myriad of ways for the mutual pursuits inherent in being a football supporter. As you dictate, you may find yourself accepting mediocrity within some 'big picture' focus which itself is a narrowed pathway and in turn, reap reduced involvement, compulsion in perspective and an increase in those observable deficiencies that stain the very environment in which the game is often marred or its elements and goodwill are reducible. Henceforth, enjoy your football but please do not take too many liberties with the enjoyment, perplexity and scrutiny of others in this great game.

You must find it extraordinary that this terrific and well-balanced side has won one game less than us and count losses against Footscray, Essendon, and North, who are all out of the eight.
