Gawn, T Mac, Lever would seem to be the next rung of on / off field leaders

T Mac or Lever for mine from this list. Gawn is busy enough as it is. Plus he wouldn't be my first choice for a captains goal in a clutch situation haha

With Brayshaw's rise, I think we actually miss Jack far less than we do, say, Lever.  Gaff will be a great addition (note my severe case of optimism) and will make our midfield almost invincible.

We are a outside midfielder (Gaff) and a Key Backman (May) away from a dynasty.

It's just a gamble right now. If we make finals, he has a much improved chance of playing in them. It may flare up again duriung this time but again, thats' the gamble.

Not even worried about his latest flare up.  Was probably inevitable with all the time he had out and how delicate the foot and toe is.

Apparently hes aiming for him to be back for the Sydney game.

Viney was suppose start running at the end of last week, are we aware if this happened?

I believe he’s had a run and is hoping to join back in training next week

We should lock him in a cage in one of the MCG light towers between now and the end of round 23 and play the Rochmond theme song throughout the night. This will help deload his foot while also ensuring he is primed to go. The only problem with this plan is finding a cage that will hold him.

Disappointing missed set shot by the captain on Saturday night.

But, I'm sorry to say, he just doesn't convince me that he can produce something special when needed. Nothing inspirational in the way he plays. As soon as Viney is back, Jones can be 'rested'.

If he doesn't get back, next in line for the captaincy should be T Mac as current vc. Next year, of course.

Then we'll be looking at the likes of Gus and Clarrie as the next leaders of our club.

Hmmmm . Just hope he  permanently conquers his issues.

Tommy would inspire by example .... but is a FF necessarily a good spot for a captain.

I remember this discussion when Neita was skipper ... sometimes isolated when the ball was locked deep in our back line.

Is it just me or do Oliver and Brayshaw go to the next level when Viney doesn’t play??

You’re right, Vineys over aggression and not so bright bull at a gate play gets in the way, he needs to be smarter not harder.

Yeah I’ve been adamant that the loss of Lever has hurt so much more than the loss of Viney.

Though I concede we badly missed his leadership against Geelong.

But yet you missed Jones critical goal against the cats? Or him reving the boys up at 3 qtr time before the coaches addressed the players? Pfft.. The Jones bashing is getting beyound the joke now!

Sorry but Jones is still our number 1 leader, and you'll be a disappointed man when hes named captain next year.

I don’t believe this to be the case.

Oliver and Brayshaw in particular have had terrific seasons and it’s just come at a time when Jack has been absent for the best part of the season.

I’d have to go and look at their stats during the games Viney played but I’m tired and going to bed.

Premature ht.

We only have Oli & Max at the moment, and the others are hit and miss.  not stars yet.

Brayshaw looks promising, but lets wait 12 months to see if his form continues.

I think you should give it a rest. Jones is captain because the coaches and his teammates think he and Viney are the best leaders at the club. But hey, what would they know....

FMD.

Yep, I’m with you there. Still goes hard, still leads by example. The very notion of ‘resting’ him is absurd.

Not his best game on Sat but he’ll be back on very shortly.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
