Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Losing Jack Viney

While it's sad, he is coverable, he's no superstar. The only thing we can't replace is his will to win. I'm not too concerned with losing Viney and it shouldn't hinder our chances too much. Hibberd and Melksham is of more concern to our structure IMO.

I somewhat agree.  Viney's a brilliant player but we are so deep with inside mids that it shouldn't make or break this season.  He is missed in last quarters when the game is on the line but we need others to learn to step up and lead as well.  I'd rule a line through him for the season if there is any risk of re-injury.

Make sure we have Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, Petracca etc together for next year and the years after.  These guys are aged 24, 21, 22 and 22 so we want to make sure they are at their peaks for the next 6-7 years.  No point in risking ruining Viney's foot in my opinion.  Max is only 26, Hogan and McDonald 23 and 25, Lever is 22 and so we have the backbone of a superteam.  I'd love to snag a flag ala baby bombers, hawthorn (2008), bulldogs (2016) this year, but not that the expense of risking long term problems.

He's our best leader and equal best clearance winner along with Oliver. You want to keep playing Tyson?

At least it means that Tyson should be played in the only position he is not atrocious in. He is a capable inside mid, finds enough of the ball and gets to many a contest. His disposal is a concern (Viney's isn't elite mind you), but playing him in his natural position will help both Tyson and the team as a whole (none of this playing him on a wing or flank cr@p).

Dom is purely an inside mid, luckily for him, there is a position in there that needs filling (you'd never play Jack on a wing or flank).

I read elsewhere on the site that Viney can only play midfield - that is ridiculous.  He plays midfield because he's very, very good there but he'd also be very good as a small forward or small defender.  For example I don't think Eddie or Laird would have been too happy last week if Jack had lined up on one of them.

If he is permanently on management for this then there are alternatives.  I know these roles have running involved with small forward defensive efforts a la ANB and small defenders coming up and back in the press, but if necessary there's a productive role there with less running than as a pure mid.

May be...he's got a lot of growing up to do yet.

Hopefully the time out will help him mature but I don't think he's ready yet and believe he was given the role too early.

Jack needs to learn to take the team with him, currently he tries to do it on his own.

There were some good signs in his last game but I would like to see a larger sample of his work before I'm convinced he has turned the corner.

His total uncompromising focus is his strength but also his weakness.

I don't agree with much of that.

I sense he's far more rounded already.  More importantly, you and I aren't really in a position to judge from afar.

I place great stock in his role on game-day.  For me he's the perfect captain.  I don't buy into a mid trying to do too much.

If there is any doubt at all with his foot, then I'd be resting him up and getting him ready, along with Jake Lever, for the 2019 season.  No need to take any risks after last season.

However, I don't for a minute question his worth to the side.  He makes the players stand taller and he is a player who can lead and will a side over the line for a victory.  I can't wait to have him back in the side.

If Jack’s out for an extended period ie 4+ weeks, it opens the door for Aaron to crash his way back into the midfield, and Salem to get another extended run.

Love Vandenbergs appetite for the game as the intensity lifts, he’s my wildcard for the run into and finals. ..

I'd add Kent to that wildcard(s) list; and Pedo, of course (it's just me) in either the backline for strengthening or as a loose cannon in the fwd line played off the bench regularly in each game.

I thought you would say that but my observation is on how he plays.

That I can see and pass judgement on...of course others including yourself and the coach view it differently.

I find him a frustrating player to watch at times as he tries to take on too much when there are better options available.

I just wonder what the impact of his premature comeback last year has had on his foot/ ankle/ toes

As anyone who has had a foot/ Ankle/ Toe injury knows ( As I do)

As soon as you start walking differently then that puts strain on other bones, tendons and ligaments!

Stress fractures and other foot injuries can be painful , debilitating and ultimately hopefully not in this case but I fear the worst

Career ending!

Why waste my time speculating?  I have no idea, and neither do you.

Quite a few on this site ARE Doctors, and in allied medical fields, as a humble ex Phys-eder. I don't pretend to know ALL

But I DO know some things.. to lend some reasonable opinion of what COULD be the scenario!

Ummm, The Docs and others on this site Physios etc might like to shed some light and comment??

You are as qualified as WYL is when he says he has a foot injury, therefore knows about all foot injuries.

Put a sock in it Viney. Said the exact same thing last year.

Put him in cotton wool and just tell him to turn his focus onto day 1 of pre season.

I know this might rub s fee up wrongly, but i would take the co-captain tag off him to just let him focus on his body and see if we can actually nut out 22 games from him.

Make Gawn co-captain along with Jonesy.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
