Good luck to him in the Saints midfield. Personally I would have stayed at the dees and played finals.....

    I believe Melbourne offered Dean a one year contract (maybe two?), St Kilda offered three and on more money. Given his history of injuries, surely you can’t have Ill feelings towards him for taking St-Kildas offer, I doubt anyone at our club does.

    Funny thing. I caught up with a co-worker today and he was talking about the street party they threw in his neighbourhood. He met a young couple who recently moved in, the Kents. Dean chatted a bit about his footy, that his shoulder is almost as good as new after that injury. He also said exactly what you have, that it was a three year deal vs one year and with a baby to think of he went for security.

    Pretty ordinary post. Loyalty works both ways! We weren't willing to offer what the saints were. The life of an afl footballer is short and security of three years is a much better option of possibly without a job next year.

    Before you knock Dean Kent, just remember he was the one that kicked the sealer against West Coast to put us into the finals for the fist time in 12 years.

    Will be a bit disappointing if he cops boos from the MFC faithful on Easter Saturday.

    His shoulder injuries of the past two seasons really were unfortunately timed as both of them occurred at times when Kent had worked hard and reestablished himself a spot in the side.  Copping big crunches like he did and subsequent dislocations is probably less to do with the frailty of his body and more to do with the hardness with which he attacked the game.  Doing his hammy again earlier this season was also unfortunate because again he had struck up some good form and was giving us multiple goals per game, but his hammy's were more his acchilies heal for us.

    I wish him well at the Saint's, so long as he doesn't play well against us; which he probably will in one of the 5 games per year he plays for the Saint's.

    A bit of symmetry there with Dean also heading off to the Saints!

    Like Brian Wilson did when he left the Northey fold and kicked the winning goal against us in 1991?....

    I always liked Kent and thought he had great upside. He WAS injured a lot though which no doubt  frustrated him more than it frustrated his supporters. Injury is not a crime however. He reminds me of Vardy, Sean Charles and Warren Dean, terrific players who simply had bad luck.

    Like Kent as he has great potential if he can stay on the field.  But the normal impact in his last game that again busted his shoulder makes me think he has a weakness there that can't be fixed with surgery.  Good luck to him he got a three year deal and based on his injury history thats great for him.  Hopefully he can play will his 30s from here on.

    I have no issues that Kent moved on to the Saints.  For me, he wasn’t able to keep up with the current team and brand of football that we are playing.  A change was needed for him and his re-signing wasn’t a priority for us.

    He’s an AFL standard player who would probably be peripheral of every team in the league’s best 18.  If one of those teams is willing to offer 3 years- take it.

    i have no ill will myself and hope he does well, the choice to take a three year deal versus a one year deal considering his injury history was a no brainer IMO.

    Oh wait a second, they all came to us, great blokes and brilliant footballers the lot of them.

    I wouldn't say KK is a great footballer. he has a lot to prove and not sure how you can call Preuss a great footballer when he played in the vfl last year as he wasnt best 22. Lewis isnt best 22 anymore and Garlett is fringe. So let's ease up on the 'great' label.

    Explains a lot. Surprised our medical team didn't recognise this condition, though.

    I think there will be some really brilliant players and great footballers at Melbourne in 2020, and there won't be......

    Gee, you missed the point of my post completely.

    It was in relation to posters who denigrate any player who leaves us but love the ones who come to us.

      Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

    • REPORT: West Coast

      On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
