I feel as though this draft might be of extra importance for Taylor and his team. Given the numbers he was picking at they have had to get creative and look far and wide.

My take on things, given the state of our list going into to the draft, is if one of the players picked becomes a regular contributor that's a pass, two or three would be a win.

Any recruiter who DIDNT look far and wide as a matter of course, would lose his job in a nanosecond.

From what I have seen of Taylor and his group, they are very good at their jobs. Kudos to the scouts, who rarely get any attention.

Don't get me wrong, as I do not mean what I'm about to state in a derogatory way at all, but just looking a the photos of JT today, he is starting to look pretty old (no doubts working in that kind of position for the MFC would do that to you).  I'm wondering if we are managing a sucession plan for the recruiting team or 'list managing the list managers' so to speak.

Really do hope that JT is mentoring a good apprentice loyal to the MFC as it would be more than handy to have someone of his ilk recruiting the next several generations of mighty Demons for the decades to come, not only the next period.

It is not like he needs to play kick to kick with the prospects...

I doubt he is even 50 years old. Got the job for another 20 years as far as Im concerned.

Hey, I said he was looking a bit old, not that I thought he was about to drop dead anytime soon (although sadly too many of our MFC heros have passed well before their time).

Wont be the first bloke/lady to age twenty years after 12 months of reading this site....err Dank, Thompson, Hird   etc etc

I don't like premature adulation on draftees but I have a feeling that JT has nailed a couple.

Probably raised expectations due to his impressive success rate. 

Far more excited about these prospects than I expected to be.

I know him through some old mates, he is about 55 i think, give or take. Be around for a while yet

I think I read he is late 40's, so a fair way from the pension.

PS. Should be able to go on for a year or two. He has presided over our best list rebuild ever. We have a list capable of going all the way, with luck on the injury front.

I've not been in an AFL environment but I'd be amazed if the best young talent at a club don't make a pact with each other to do stick together and win a flag.

Jason Taylor just has an exceptional eye for talent. Few have it and most don't. We see what Jason Taylor can do with second, third and fourth round picks, lets hope the club stops giving away first round charities and Jason Taylor gets a few more opportunities with some first round selections. Fritsch and Spargo last year is an amazing haul. Both could improve and be seriously elite players - especially Fritsch. I'd rate Fritsch as a top 5 pick if that draft was re-run again.

Easily in the top 5.

I'd rather 2 Taylor picks in the 30s than one in the 20s. It's a deep draft year by all accounts, which they identified... 6 new kids, if he hits on only 50% (which would be a bad year by Taylor's standards) then we've done great.

Love that he takes known quantities almost all the time, and rarely goes for KP players or early 200cm players. I wanted Bailey Williams this year, but the inherent risk of taking those kinds of players early makes it a gamble, which he doesn't seem willing to do.

Interesting listening to him that we aimed for midfielders as we shored up some areas with Kolodjashnij preuss and May coming in. I think that’s what he was most happy about.

Because the FD could see that despite racking up reasonable numbers, Tyson's decision making is slow, foot speed poor and disposal iffy. He's an inside mid and we have others that have gone post him. We needed a key back (May), support ruck (Preuss) and an outside runner with good disposal (Kolo). 

According to HS interview, Dom knew the writing was on the wall several months ago. 

Is his record post-first-round up to scratch?

I would argue that a significant reason why the list lacks depth is that Taylor has a poor strike rate beyond round one of the draft. We laud him for the Oliver recruitment, Brayshaw, Salem and so on and rightly so, but your top scout is paid to find a quotient of diamonds in the rough as well. Nowhere near good enough in this area for mine.
