Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I mentioned in another thread that my information is that, at this stage, he will be seeking a trade at end of year. He is not happy with the limited opportunities he has had, citing that he gets the chop very easily whilst others seem to get different treatment. I suppose 15 games in 3 years would tend to back that up. At this stage, I really do not know what to make of him as he has not had a decent stint in the ones to settle in to a role. But I would suggest that if he is not selected this week, he is gone.

Wouldn't care if he left. Has done SFA at AFL level anyway.

If he gets his shot, which I feel like he will, he should be instructed to run all day. He can't just be a roaming stay at home forward, he needs to be mobile and try to run his defender into the ground. Hard work and application has seemed to be his biggest fault in the past, we can't afford laziness at this time.

Why? So we can kick it over his head? He actually needs to be a stay at home forward. We bomb the ball in, so Weideman can contest the incoming footy with 10 other blokes - who usually go up for the same ball in our forward line. No point using Weideman to lead into the space and open the forward line up. He is a tall kid, he should be back in the square contesting the bombs that come in. It will be a bit of fun for him anyway. With our junior footy tactics it might kick Weideman into gear. He is as good a chance as any who contest these hospital balls that come bombing into the forward line.

I agree. Get him involved in the play, wherever that is

The Weid needs to get the ball in his hands at this stage, then his confidence just might click.

I reckon you're a little harsh. Sam has just turned 21 and, as we are repeatedly told, KPP's take longer to find their feet.

I went to Brisvegas for our Suns' game and watched Sam closely. He held his own against Witts in the ruck and whilst his stats were low he did have 4 goal assists. Like most DL'ers, I've been less than impressed with Pedo this year.

Still a baby, he shouldn’t be judged yet.

2019 will be an important year for Sam, that may all begin this week.

Goodwin has to throw the side around, just tell them to “Go for it”

Currently there are only 6 players listed younger than Sam, on our list.

At just 21 Yrs of age, I think this strapping 195cm Lad is doing just fine.

As others have said, it's not getting the ball into our forward 50 that's the problem, it's our delivery inside 50 and conversion that lets us down every week. John Coleman himself would be frustrated playing out of our goals.

If Weid can get his leading patterns working and clunk 3 or 4 or 5 marks i50 we will get on a roll. Desperately need to get off to a big start.

C'mon Sammy!

There you go...

You see I think he does provide a genuine physical contest.

What I would like to see him do more of is hold his grabs.

Time at AFL now will tell us if he's a keeper or not.

Has to come in...

I agree with this. I fell his efforts in contests are quite good and he actually gets his hands to the ball alot. They haven't quite stuck for him yet,  but I really think they will soon. He has the natural technique to be the best mark in our team, when he has the strength of the nearly 27 year old, 109kg Gawn or the 26 yo 100kg TMac, then they'll clunk for him.

Pederson the big body chf creating chaos and space.

T Mac the mobile ff

Weiderman the slight body high marking Forward pocket changing on ball with Gawn.

Return to old fashioned structures.

Swyl, i reckon I saw Big Maxy play in the first Demons game I attended. What a talented guy: could play footy, could bowl and also watched him calve up NSW as a lower order batsman in a shield final in the early 70s.

I was only 8-9 years when Max played in the Number 1, but i do remember him kicking goals resting in the fwd pocket. He  could play the game. He loved Melbourne.

In 1986 i worked at GTV 9 when Max was there and we had a few chats about the Demons and Cricket. He didn’t want to leave, but had to choose one

OMG your constant negativity is really becoming boring.

You have confused negativity with reality.

If they play Weiderman, McGovern will drift off him all night while Barrass plays on TMac and take intercept mark after intercept mark.

The state of play :

We are more concerned a out how Weed can counter the likes of McGovern.

Think about just how arze about that really is.

There have definitely been some subtle changes in Sam’s role. He’s stronger, is doing more ruck work around the ground and is becoming a well rounded player, rather than type cast as a KPF. He needs a breakout game at AFL level and if that happens, we won’t see much more of him at Casey.

If Weid comes in I’d put him in the ruck for the first centre bounce, let him be involved instantly win or lose the hit out, feel the heat so to speak and Max starts forward.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
