Well we haven’t lost a game this pre-season. Can’t ask for much more.

We didn’t lose last preseason either.

Well that was probably as strong a Saints side as they will have. We had a few key players missing in Viney, Lewis & McDonald which bodes well I guess. Hopefully we don't allow teams many run ons in the when the real thing starts though!

Positives:

- We won.  A win is always a positive, no matter how you get it.

- When we played at full tilt in the first two quarters, we looked fantastic.  Great transition, slick ball movement, manic pressure and our backline was terrific.

- It feels like we have some players ready to take the next step.  Petracca and Hogan rotated through midfield and forward well, Gus had a really good game, Lever is a ripping acquisition and guys like Hannan and Fritsch give us some real X-factor up forward.

- Gawny is ready to be an All Australian again.

- Many of our players had limited game time.  We rotated much more than them which showed in the third term.

Negatives:

- The third term.  We changed things up a little but we stunk it up big time.  We need to fix that ASAP otherwise we won't make the improvement we all expect.

- We had a few players off tonight.  Hunt couldn't really get himself into the game, Salem was just okay and I'm not sure Wagner is in our best 27-28 players.

- We fumbled a bit but that was due to the conditions more than anything.

Overall, it was a good win with a horrible lapse in the third term.  Bring on Round 1!!

2 things we need

Tempo footy when we have a lead that has been recovered .

And against the momentum we need Run from our Backs Hunt and frost will do .

Tracking exactly where history says we should be.

Good not elite.

Inside the 8 outside the 4.

No coincidence that all their forwards got touches once Oscar went off. I’m a fan and he’s probably more important than I give him credit for.

Shocking 3rd quarter. Loved Goodwin taking extended time right before the 4q bounce with Oliver, bang clearance.

Once the class got their hands on it on the 4th you could just see the difference between the teams.

Took a quarter off and still won easily.

3rd quarter worries me.

Was hoping when teams get a run on that we could stem the flow but didn’t happen. Saints kicked 6 goals to one in the third

Hope it’s not a continuous them this season like last season.

3rd quarter started with party tricks and fancy stuff from the Dees and basic long kicking footy from the Saints.

By the time we woke up, we couldn't stop them.

It's an old habit we just can't break.

What went wrong in the 3rd Quarter

SEN was not telling much

were players rested?

SEN treated that game like a "practice run" ... not sure why they bothered turning up other than to give their producers etc a run.

Listened for about 10 minutes and realised the comments on the AFL website provided better insight

Can’t play 4 quarters yet and the Saints made s horrible mistake taking McCartin.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
