The Demons have been given the South-Eastern corridor covering Dandenong and Casey as their Multicultural Academy zone.  Does anyone know if they're doing anything to develop kids in the area?  There's a huge migrant population in Dandenong that could be tapped into for some big athletic lads.

I followed Dandenong in the VFA many moons ago. They had some handy multicultural lads in those teams........... Herman Van der Beek, Eddie Melai, Paddy Flaherty.

Jokes aside there is a huge number of Sudanese migrants coming into Dandenong. Would be terrific to see some of the kids get into footy and get drafted.

Casey is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the state, lots of young families. Although not ideal now, could be terrific in the coming few years with the amount of kids out that way. Scully was from Casey.

Nev Jettta has been running a squad of talented youngsters from the area for last 2 years

Not one post in this thread has "blasted the club".

What are you on about?

And mfc has created a Casey Demons women's team in VFLW comp.  Start up 2018.

The Academy and the two Casey Demons teams will help  establish our colours and the name 'Demons' in the region and hopefully spin off to the men's teams and then memberships.

It will only take one person to break the glass door,,i mean, ceiling. And then the rest will follow through and  dominate.

Nationality?  I just read he was an ex carlton player.  so BlueBagger.

I'm sure I didn't know that back in those days, watching VFA on telly. Would have spoilt it just a tad.

Yeah lots of fight on Sunday footy, at the VFA.

The crowd brawling, knocked the fence over, down at Sandringham, back in the day.

I live in Berwick and I'd say the Dees are one of the more popular clubs with the kids judging from the footy days at my son's school. Up there with Hawthorn/Collingwood.

Have also seen the occasional billboard/notice on some of the busier roads advertising MFC events with players although I haven't attended one.

The Auskick here stinks though.

Agree with this.  This is a community that we could engage in the sport; it's a huge untapped market.  Socially speaking, getting involved in sport, whether watching or playing, is a great way to get migrant communities engaged in their new home.  Not sure what sort of drafting privileges the club might get from this zone, but a lot of Sudanese kids have incredible physical attributes that are perfect for Australian Football.

I just started a thread in the DL Women's forum but think it is just as relevant here:

AFLW Expansion.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/why-essendon-and-hawthorn-were-overlooked-for-aflw-licences-why-geelong-and-north-melbourne-are-in-for-2019/news-story/5567991b13f37b81126bbf5957c6e831

Existing Teams:  Carlton, Collingwood, Melbourne, Adelaide, Freo, Brisbane, GWS. Bulldogs

2019 - Geelong and North join

2020 - West Coast, Richmond, St Kilda, and Gold Coast join.

?? - Essendon, Hawthorn, Port, Sydney (have not applied for a license).

There will be no AFLW team south of the Yarra until 2020!  Even then it will be the Saints who look to the bayside as their catchment area.

We have a Multicultural Academy taking in the area around Dandenong.  We have the Casey Demons.  From next year we have a Casey Demon's team in the VFLW.

This is a huge opportunity for MFC to lock down the southern and south east corridor of Melbourne and its outer ring suburbs as its catchment area.  It is really important we establish ourselves before Hawthorn move to Dingley when they will spread their wings from the east to the south east.

The potential for supporter growth in the next few years is huge with a commensurate increase in memberships beyond that.

My favourite moment was  one day out at Shepley Oval  and involved a pretty hard nut in Kevin Shinners.  Crowd interaction was common and this day some goose near me called out " Why don't you run faster Shinners ??!! "  I thought it was a rhetorical question myself, but Shinners turned around to this fool and said " Why don't you go and get f##*%d ?? "  Quality interaction!!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
