Though I know many who are taking out GWS membership, as it pretty much guarantees a Grand Final ticket should GWS make it - as when ballots are held for the two grand final team members, they have about a 99 in 100 chance of getting selected! Fair enough!!

GWS was born as a result of North not going to Gold Coast and the AFL having to go "bang bang" in adding a 17th and 18th team to the competition. He paints a very true picture of the shenanigans the Giants played up in NSW and the insults that followed. And Sheedy can GAGF. Abosolutly. I hate Sheedy as much as I hate those GW$ show ponies, but hate that $cully AH most of all.

I'll be cheering loudly for them now, for they have done more for the Canberra and Southern NSW region in the last couple of years than the AFL and all other fly by clubs (North, Sydney, Dee's) put together. If this then equates to more AFL players in the region, meaning more teams, stronger competitions and then greater opportunity for our kids (hopefully my youngest would benefit from all this) to develop, then that's an even better reason. Being involved in coaching and I can categorically state it is so much more difficult for talented players in the Canberra/NSW Region (excluding Murray) to make it - for you don't develop the necessary AFL skills my beating up on consistently weaker opponents. As to the money, well the AFL will only find another way to spend it. Probably by help building a summer training centre for the Magpies; or maybe taking over the Netball competition; or maybe giving it to the clubs who will promptly spend it all on one elite player, another dozen coaches and (for some) a suspect medical program harvesting cows!!!! Besides seeing the tigers get there with there easy draw, or having any team coached by a Scott being involved; is more gut churdling than Coke mixed with 10 day old milk that has been left in the Queensland sun on a fly infested pig farm. That's great for those in the region (sincerely) however this is a job the AFL should be doing not the clubs. I have no issue with GWS being created, the issue I have is the ridiculous amount of concessions they had and the fact the AFL has tried to "guarantee" success in their first few years. Remember they had greater concessions than the Suns did on startup. If they get through the next 7 or so year having won 0 or 1 flag I won't have an issue with them. If they win multiple flags and continue to get concessions (such as the academy zones) I think a lot of people will resent them no end. Especially if it doesn't even pay off in members/crowds. I want to see footy succeed in the northern states, we'll all be better off in the long run. But I don't want to see the integrity of the competition impacted in doing so.

No need to give pig farms a bad name And surprisingly there isn't that many flies to annoy you at a pig farm, I guess they have enough other things to annoy
Melbournepotter 388 Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Sheedy and Scully......may the club just rot and eventually fade away. Their smug looks on the day that Scully went up to Sydney for 'just a look around' won't be forgotten .
Demon trucker 1,800 Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 GWS will never win a flag until they can win at the MCG, still have only won once ever at the G.

Redleg 42,195 Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 They may not be the unbeatable juggernaut we all feared. A few are at the end or close to it like Stevie, Deledio, Griffin, Shaw and Mummy and they won't get the bucket full of first round picks again. They are now what they are just like every other team. They should have made a GF but haven't. They are still talented but lack some real mental toughness.
billyblanks29 184 Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 Quote They have some flaws – their forward pressure, they don’t have tacklers inside the forward line, they don’t win the territory battle. When the ball hits the ground in the Giants’ forward line, if they don’t score, it comes back out pretty quickly.Read more at https://www.playersvoice.com.au/paul-roos-how-i-feel-about-gws/#YtqVr4Wi3Dp3jj3t.99 Interesting comments that show insights into how Roos (& Goodwin) want the game played. Massive focus on forward line pressure hence the reason they are looking to trade off Watts.

There is nothing whatsoever to link Watts (or Goodwin) to that article - it is about GWS. There are other threads for Watts bashing. Good Grief!
dl4e 5,851 Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 GWS are like an immature rabbit in the spotlights. Basically they should be run over.
whatwhat say what 23,893 Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 I hate this franchise and I would happy if they never win a premiership in my lifetime Actually, make it never make a grand final And I’m only 38 and intend to live another 40+ years so basically what I’m saying is all I wish upon GW$ is utter, utter misery

rjay 25,434 Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 I was most happy to see Delidio not make a GF. I can't stand the Tiges but what I can't stand more is players walking into a premiership team without putting time into it. It's kind of justice that in the last 2 years both Griffen and now Lids have moved on to greener pastures and found the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Am I mean spirited for thinking this way?

Am I mean spirited for thinking this way? I think that's a little inaccurate, rjay. I thought it was Hardwick who offered Deledio the opportunity to move. Whether Hardwick considered that an opportunity for BD to give him a chance at success or if it was a calculated list management decision by the Tigers we'll never know. Either way, it's a rather delicious irony.

Am I mean spirited for thinking this way? Griffen sure. Deledio no, he would've loved to stay at the Tigers, they moved him on for a first round pick and to stop having so much tied up in an injury prone player.
DeeSpencer 26,717 Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 It's funny that GWS have struggled because of their list build. So many top draft picks that many had to be moved on (largely back to Victoria), so those who stayed have all demanded big money to stay. Then with limited list spaces around all the stars they've ended up without any role players. And because they went with Scully and Davis as their oldest signings at the time (aside from the 30+ guys like Cornes and McDonald) the only veterans they have now are all mercenaries coming to the end. It's an unnatural list build that's created an unbalanced team.
DeeSpencer 26,717 Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 All of that said: They were always short on depth and injured this year. That can change pretty quickly next year. No more Stevie J. Mumford, Deledio and Shaw will have to prove their worth, not walk up starts. Adam Kennedy is their back pocket specialist, he's been badly missed, Buntine is another injured defender who actually defends. Dylan Shiel has been beat up. Cameron has been injured. I'd expect they'll get it together and have a stronger run at it next year and if they don't I'd be looking at the coach.
