Good stuff. I’m in my second week of a year off being a stay at home Dad. In between dadding I’ve been perfecting my cold drip coffee and breaking trade related news.

So your'e gulping down Ice Breaks while pulling trade stories out of your arz to ease the bordom?

I think Connors comments about Lever and what other players at MFC will think of his contract are a disgrace, especially coming from a player manager.

What did he say Redleg ?

It's more the fact that the only brand of players we want at our club are competitors. Jack just doesn't have that competitive drive and the club is sick of him thinking he can just get by on talent.

Being competitive is one thing but conrolling aggression is another. I think we had the worst record of suspensions this year than any other club. Vince, Lewis, Hogan, Salem and Jack Viney was very lucky on a couple of occasions he wasn't pinged. What is Goodwin demanding here? Forget the rules just get the ball? You MUST have a blending of hard players with those of great skill. When we do get the ball we muck it up too often. How would this be reduced? Someone who can kick with precision. JW is one of the few we have in our team at the moment.

That's usually how you form what side of an argument you are on, isn't it?

Never, but thanks for asking and thanks for your interest.

I'd support my worst enemy against my best friend in an argument if I thought my enemy was right.

Not a great trait, I suspect.

Basically that the other players will be upset about what Lever will get and that it is one of the reasons JW is being pushed out.

If that is true red then Connors is a disgrace

It isnt his business he is there to look after Jacks interests and obviously doing a pretty poor job of it

Jack should sack him! Those comments do nobody any good and makes Connors look like a real tool

I would not pay any attention to what Connors or any player manager says, about anything, at any time.

They are stirrers and agitators trying to manipulate the situation to strike the best deal for their player.

If that means throwing mud at other players, other clubs, their player's own club, well so what. All's fair in love and war.

"Don't burn your bridges", said no player manager, anywhere, ever.

I bought about $1500.00 worth of cold drip apparatus’ last week with the intention of making enough to supply my mates coffee shop. I also bought 240 small screw cap bottles to put it in and a steriliser for the bottles. A properly prepared batch lasts 4 months.

I ended up using the steriliser for cleaning baby bottles as it’s much bigger than the one we purchased from the baby shop. And I put the cold drip into large bottles and drink it during the day like I normally would water. My heart is continuously palpitating but my gym workouts are pretty good.

Back on topic, I heard Watts hated Sydney. He went out on the town with Franklin and has been awake for 3 days.

Doesn't he also manage Trac?

The "expectations" are not that he play better than Dusty Martin (a lowly no 3 draft pick).

The "expectations" are that he trains to the required standard, rehabs to the required standard, and generally puts in to the required standard.

And that's what I don't understand about how the club has handled this.

If, in the very first instance, they had come out and said something along the lines of:

"We have suggested to Jack that he look at his other options because regardless of any player's talent and skill we demand that every player commits to and meets the standards we have set. Unfortunately, although we have had several discussions with him around these matters before and during the season we haven't seen any change in his application. Jack is a wonderful young man and has from time to time shown exactly what he is capable of. We recognise that he has been under a high level of scrutiny since the day he walked into the club and although we wish today that his beginning could have be handled very differently, who, apart from Jack, really knows how this may have affected a talented player during his development years. We believe we are doing the best thing by Jack by encouraging him to search out other opportunities."

I doubt any supporters would have objected to what they are doing if that was the way it was presented from day 1.

I know it is very easy to see this in hindsight but it wouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to predict that it was going to be an extremely sensitive issue given history (at least 7 or 8 years) has constantly shown the extreme emotion and polarisation of opinion around Jack.

P.S. On reflection (after 'living' with this post for the last 10 minutes or so) I think my emotions are getting in the way now. What I am wanting is perfection in the handling of this matter. And rarely is anything perfect. And as Mazer Rackham suggests in the next comment - the way has to be forward now. No more from me on this. I promise. I think. Hahahahaha

All well and good but does it get us any closer to the aim of the exercise? Which is to extract maximum value from Jack, one way or another. On field or in a trade.

Yes, Jack has had a rough run. It's regrettable. But not much point in crying over spilt milk. It's down the drain, we know it, everyone knows it, and the only way now is forward.

Fair enough.

IMO it would have got us closer to the aim of the exercise.

This is the main bit I have a problem with...

It should be between Jack and the FD (Coach) and not for public consumption.

What they are doing is tying to justify themselves, they should be secure enough in their decision to not need public backing.

There was also no need to hang Jack out to dry.

Perhaps the FD were keeping it in house until Jack Watts decided to go and do an interview about how he wants to stay. None of us really know exactly what has transpired, but I'm pretty sure Jack would have known by then about what the FD's plans were. Either way it's irrelevant, the FD have a higher standard of what Jack's output should be versus what Jack does. If you listen to Josh Mahoney's interview yesterday on SEN I think it's clear to all what the situation is. I don't understand the angst. If an employer wants a higher standard of output from an employee and they don't get it they are entitled to move that employee on. That's pretty much what is happening and Jack isn't or doesn't want to listen. The ball is in his court either way.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
