Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Honestly, we need to stop papering over the leadership cracks, which is what I think the club has started to do with Viney being made co-captain. Until Gawn, Tracc, the Macs, Watts, Oliver and even Hogan are seen as the true leaders of the club (I'm including Chunk and Viney as the top of that group) then there's no point in bringing in another guy for their 'leadership qualities'. We got Lewis for an empty pack of chips and he provides the same sort of player/leadership.

As some have said we can't have another ex-mid going to the half back line without making us too slow. If Vince was to retire or the plan was to play him purely as either a tagger or forward (and at Casey) then McVeigh might work, again if he costs us nothing, but he's only a stop gap solution in both his playing future and leadership.

Crameri has been talked about coming to us on other forums, not sure if it's just because of the Essendon/Goodwin connection, but he's just spent a year off then another year mostly injured. I'd say he's very very similar to Tim Smith and not sure he'd add much to the AFL team.

He doesn't do much for me either, in that he is not the type of player we need.  We need a key defender and, potentially, some outside run as well (if we can get it).  Rockliff gives us neither.

I agree a key defender is a priority. Anyone out of Lever, Roberts or Adams (Bulldogs) or a player of that ilk would be a good start.

I think we keep our first pick and draft a quality mid.

If we can hold on to our first pick and still get Lever then we've made out like bandits, and that's assuming we don't give up someone of quality as well.

If we get Lever then I think we can say goodbye to our first rounder.  Crows will want that as a minimum IMO.

Still, there is always some gold to be found in the later rounds and Taylor has proven that he can find it.

The only thing that crosses my mind is we get Lever....and a convoluted exchange of picks. Which of course means its not done in first 5 mins of Circus season.

Be interesting to see hoe JMcV plays out finals. Sydney aren't particularly renown for giving up useful players. So for mine. If hes gettable i don't want him...as he won't be 100%

Yep, agree with that.  Crows will want to play hard ball and it will take a fortnight to get done.

Injury affected season and likely to become more so.  Not enough value even for one season.

Is this the MFC version of the "messiah complex"?

Carlton got in Judd. Got 'em nowhere. Suns got in Ablett. got 'em nowhere. Many other examples over many years.

MFC get in someone to magically fix up our soft doughy minds?

Vince hasn't done it.

Lewis hasn't done it.

How about we look from within to find and fix the problem. One more "mental messiah" isn't going to do it.

Lachie Hansen as a delisted free agent? Turned 29 only a few weeks ago, led intercept marks from 2014-2016. Could be good depth for us and allow T mac to stay forward with Lever potentially coming in also?

McVeigh is a very good player, had an injury interrupted year so if he has the legs I would be keen in a year (or two) contract and then keeping him on a coach. He need foot skills and clean hands at the back and leadership of course. I think he could do a job.

you can see how Lewis stood up when the whips were cracking in the last few rounds and few around him did. leadership and mental strength is sill a big gap for us, especially down back. Hunt, Wagner etc would learn a lot

I must admit I haven't watched a single Nth match this year... showed a bit of promise in the past though.

Jones and Viney are great leaders.  You're bashing Jones based on the last game of the season.

Jones and Viney were massive in many games this year.

If that were the case we wouldn't have needed to get Vince, Cross, Lewis over the years. Especially not Lewis.

I like the idea of veterans on one year contracts. They provide good value from a salary cap perspective and don't cost anything in draft picks.

On McVeigh, I would want to see how he plays in the finals, but he is still a very good player, albeit injury prone. Other similar players maybe worthy of discussion are David Mundy, Kade Simpson and Leigh Montagna.

need a good meat and 3 veg outside running mid who CAN kick a ball  each and every time where it's supposed to go.

Not much to ask Melbourne...  Don't need to be a household name ( yet ) ...just  a goer ;)

I dont mind the idea for one year but again would be hard to see him playing along side Vince and Lewis. I also dont mind the idea of trying to talk Luke Hodge out of retirement for one year plus a coaching role after that. One of the greatest leaders of all time, surly could help out in selected key matches.

What a crock of [censored].  So just because you have good leaders at a club that means you stop recruiting older players who can benefit the team?

Except they weren't brought to the club in their twilight, and they weren't brought over as mentors. They all arrived as depth to what was already an exceptionally talented side. We got Cross and Lewis over for the sole purpose of providing leadership. Which is my point about it saying a lot about the experienced leaders already at the club.

We got Lewis because of his football ability first and foremost.   He came 2nd in the exceptional teams b&f the year before he came to us.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
