Mostly my view DOX. Polec seems to be easily let go by clubs, despite being a decent footballer

I'm not sure about that. I distinctly recall Port wanting to retain Polec and Polec didn't want to leave (Port or SA). Port had no hope of getting anywhere near North's ridiculous offer. Brisbane didn't want him to go either.

Having said that, I'm not 100% sold on him despite wanting plenty more outside run. If he doesn't run both ways, then Goody will have no interest. It'd hard to determine if this is about the player or the coach (with he and Brown)

Ben Brown would be a massive get. Would love to see him at the Dees. Just need to clear out the F50 to give him a lead up - he's an old school forward.

Why are North pushing him out the door? Something must be wrong for them to actively get rid of a player who has kicked over 60 goals in each of 2017,18 & 19.

That's not really fair I don't think.

From memory he left Brisbane because of Brisbane being bad, they didn't push him out.

He then left Port because, at least in part (if not entirely) because North gave him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Now he's being pushed out of North and there's certainly discussion he hasn't fitted in or followed instructions, but one of the alleged instructions was to tag Cripps - that's like us asking Langdon to play an inside mid role and then getting upset when he struggles. Why would Shaw ask Polec to tag?

Earlier in the year the comments in the media were that his body was cooked and he also was getting pushed/blocked off way too easily. North seems to be blowing everything up to start again like we did in 2007/08, they obviously haven't learnt from previous mistakes. 11 delistings plus Brown, Higgins and Polec that's a third of your list!

Brown, Mihocek and Jackson/Weid.. with a combo of Kosi and Spargo/Hunt crumbing..?

I like it. But we'd need another speedster in there that we can guarantee goals out of IMV. Still not mobile enough when the ball hits the deck with that combo.

According to the Age, he knocked back 750k a year for three years at the start of the season with a view to renegotiating at the end of the season. He had a poor season so Norf probably offered him a much lower figure which Brown's management rejected. They reached a stalemate and then decided to part ways...

I hope the price tag rules out Collingwood from nabbing him

From afar it looks like North has taken ruthlessness to a whole new level of dogged stubborness.  The guy wanted 4 years instead of 3.  Yet North couldn't find a way to get the deal done.  One has to wonder whether they even considered a contract with "triggers" for a 4th year or other trade offs.

Shaw is making some big calls for someone with only one year on his coaching contract.

Putting his eggs in the 'drafting talent' basket.  May end up with lots of egg on face.

Very risky strategy. They don’t have much of a young core 22-26yo so once Goldy and Cunnington/Zeilbell are too old in a couple of years they will be in real trouble.

im loving it!   Tassie Ross by 2025 I reckon

If Polec leaves and Higgins who are north paying big money? They need to reach 92% of the cap. They won’t be able to attract anyone decent in the trade period with their ‘war chest’

Norf are in for a world of pain in 2021

Not just 2021 but you might say many years of pain to come?

Brown has wanted out for several months. Sick of the internal criticism at North regarding his physicality and courage. Most of it from a former player renowned for his hardness who now seems to have way too much influence at the club.

Just had a look at his set shot accuracy - he is around career 60% - significant upgrade on someone like BFritsch - who kicks at 48% (career and 42% this year).  His goal average of 2.2 vs. BF 1, shows what sort of lead up forward he could be for the club.  Fingers crossed.

His agent has already come out and said he wanted to stay.

Or playing Harmes as a defender or Melky as a tagged... ?

I can’t believe Ben Brown plays footy let alone walks without shinbones?!

I put some of the blame on Brown and his manager.  At the start of the year they offered three years at very good money and he knocked it back because he wanted four years.  I can understand why he wanted that extra year, but it's not as if Norf low balled him or didn't come to the table with a good offer.

He knocked it back, which is his right, but then had a shocker of a year and here we are.  Pickering will back his client, but they did turn down a very good offer in the first place.

A bit like playing our mid field tager on the HBF.

Why are people comparing Fritsch to Brown? Ben Brown is a key forward, Fritsch is  medium forward *SHOULD* be a third tall at best in our team and intentionally leads and drags defences wide. His kicking skills need to improve to where they were in his first year again, and that can happen. Anyone remember how poor Petracca's kicking was last year?

Fritsch and Brown aren't an either or scenario.

Compare Brown to TMac, Weid or Mitch Brown surely it makes a lot more sense?

Look, I'm not one to play the guessing game all that well, but going by this you don't want Ben Brown at the club??

'Hello, membership. I'm paid up until 2021 season's end. Look,  I've just seen that we've recruited Ben Brown and I have a problem with his run up. Yes, his run up for goal. So I'd like a refund......What do you mean I can't do that?  Well, either he goes or I go. Hello? Hello?'

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
