I tell you what, regardless of the type of impact Darwin games have on the team, if anyone from the club reads this thread, we're looking at another decade out of finals.

Seriously, this thread is painful, and is as incoherent as Collingwood's gameplan.

There are several upside possibilities from our Darwin game:

1. Another aspect of the Darwin deal is that in addition to being part of the 1 million two game NT deal, it also enabled us to claim a Saturday night TV game, which, especially during our lean decade, the AFL were loath to give us.

http://m.afl.com.au/news/2017-07-13/sellout-likely-as-big-time-footy-hits-top-end

2. We're experienced at playing in (and recovering from) the Darwin heat and humidity, the opposition are not. In 2016 we beat Freo by 32 points in Darwin. Maybe we can make the Sauna a mini-fortress that teams will learn to fear.

"The Adelaide Crows have never played in NT."

3. NT footy deserves AFL level games and I like our club for acknowledging this part of Australia. It's cool, and I believe it will pay off in connections and contacts being made that will make us a better club and team in the future.

This shits me royally. Being in Queensland, it's glaringly obvious how many Saturday night games the Lions were handed 2009-2015, as they were the ones being played on FTA here.

I know I wouldn't spend a week hanging around Darwin if I didn't have to.

Funny, that's exactly what I have chosen to do this week. 'Tis a cracking place, lots to do and see. Perfect time of year as well. Who would have thought a mid-Winter family trip to Bali and the Top End would coincide with our beloved Dees playing the Crows in Darwin?! Expecting a big crowd. Lots of interest up here.

How is this so? His argument is we lose (often badly) the week after a Darwin game and has provided precise evidence in chronological order.

We were just incredibly chit during those years, not surprising we lost coming out of any previous game.

We all agree it's not ideal, but we need/ed the $$. It is what it is.

These stats mean nothing.  We were lucky to be winning 4 games a year during this period.

So explain to me why we lost to a dead and buried Essendon in 2015 and faded horribly against St Kilda last year, both games after Darwin. We were vastly improved in 2015 and 2016 compared to the earlier years in those list of losses, and I strongly believe we would've won those 2 games had we not played in Darwin the week before.

According to the MFC site there's an open training session today up there. If your daily schedule allows a visit to training could you please update anything of note?

Sure thing. Will be heading there with the girls. (3.30pm hot time of day for a training run - not expecting to see much.)

I think I speak for most, but bloody hell do I hope we win next week so you'll shut up.

3 things in life are certain - Death, taxes, and a Demonlander finding something to whinge about, regardless of how far we've come and how great this year has been already.

P.s are you a physiotherapist or a sports scientist? If the answer to both is no, I have no idea why you are speculating on what's best for our injured players in terms of recovery. I'm quite sure we pay a bunch of qualified people serious money to make these calls.

No, go ahead.  Argue all you want.  Doesn't change the fact that I hope we win next week so you'll stop going on and on and on about it.

And to go with your rhetoric, the opposition we played and the stage of the season mattered little.  We sucked and it had nothing to do with Darwin.  Back in the day we couldn't even string 2 wins in a row together.

But no, you go right ahead and stick with as many negatives as you can.  I know you enjoy it as you rarely say anything positive.  Give it 18 months and you won't know what to do with yourself.

Goodwin right behind NT partnership.

"“We understand the facilities, we understand the oval and the conditions and we think it’s a really good advantage for us.

“When you’re building a club and becoming a better team, the results turn with it. For the first time we won in Alice, earlier in the season, and we won up in Darwin last year, so we’re starting to get some momentum when we’re playing in the Northern Territory.

“That comes with building a strong footy club and a better footy team.”"

This also the man who suggests Trengove is 'close'

Pardon my lack of enthusiasm or belief in much of what any football official says publicly. They are pollie like in that regard.

Its all spin.

What else is he likely to utter ?

Hardly spin. More stating the obvious, but if that doesn't fit in your own personal view of the world... that's your prerogative.

Can I blame 186 on Darwin?

Or that loss to the Essendon VFL side last year?

Coz those games need some excuses!

people actually thinking that playing home games in Darwin isnt a negative thing for us?! talk about it and get howled down for whinging??  yeah no complianing goes on on this site at all.

of course its a pain in the backside and we have a better chance of winning more games if we play home games in Melb.  If people don't like hearing negative comments about Darwin, don't read the fricken thread!

Very light session this arvo. Boys were out on ground for about half an hour, in small groups doing kick-to-kick for a while before standing in zone formations for different positional stoppages (not using ball).

Only things to note were that Billy Stretch was running about, JKH appeared to be part of midfield group and TMac part of forwards (no surprise there, I guess).

Low-key and lots of mixing with the crowd afterwards. Very inclusive. Kids happy. Well done, Dees.

Crows out on ground now (including Lynch). Got a couple of boos from my girls. Time to go!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
