1 game in 3 weeks for your best players leading into a prelim courtesy of throwing a game (and introducing bad habits to do so) just to manoeuvre a perceived weaker team into the 8, who in all likelihood, won't last long enough to meet them. Not going to happen.

In fact it would be in their interests to have a combative Melbourne in the bottom half of the 8 so that the Crows other potential rivals will have to survive a real contested final game(s) (and with associated injuries, soreness, etc, likely to come with it) and not have an easy path through the finals.

For similar reasons Sydney finishing 5-8 also suits the top teams (noting that they will be in the 8).

Agree to disagree.  Adelaide's interest is clearly best served by having the greatest number of weaker teams make up the bottom half of the top 8 as possible.  They don't know at the time they're playing West Coast whether they'll win their qualifying final or not and hence who they will play in subsequent weeks of the finals or whether they get a week off.  They do know that Melbourne beat them comfortably on their home deck.  Being the last game of the home and away season, if there is a preference to finish first or second to set up a preferred qualifying final and/or there is a possibility to keep out a feared competitor, they avail themselves of it.  Jay Clark from the Herald-Sun obviously as clueless as me: JAY CLARK SAYS: The premiership favourite looks set to get two home finals and can rest players from the Round 23 trip to Perth if they want to. Box seat.

I agree we underestimate Brisbane at our peril, that they are the best last placed side for a long time and that Brisbane will fancy themselves a chance given our losses to North and our far from impressive wins over Carlton but your stats are way off:

We've played bottom four teams 5 times( North x 2, Carlton x2, Gold Coast x 1 and Brisbane 0 as yet), for 3 wins 2 losses with a percentage of 111.4% across the five games and a mean average margin of +2 goals. So ultimately we are actually travelling pretty well against bottom teams.

We should've beaten North and if we don't rock up with intensity this weekend we will lose BUT I'm hoping for a big win and the stats say we're a strong chance.

I think both our stats are correct.  We lost to Hawks, Freo and North x 2 when they were bottom 4.

Like you I am hoping for a big win...but will be nervous until the final siren:mellow:

With all due respect your logic is bizarre. By your logic when GC lost to GWS in round 2 it was a "loss to a bottom 4 team" in spite of GWS having been one of the two flag favourites for the majority of the season! It would also mean that every team that lost to Sydney between rounds 7-12 had had a "loss to a bottom 4 team" despite them being likely to finish 5th and currently being third favourite for the flag.

It is ridiculous to call a team bottom 4 until they've at least played everyone else at least once and in a tight season like this right until the end. I'd say the four teams I've listed will finish where they are due to the 2 game gap between 14th and 15th but it could still change.

Freo and Hawthorn are unlikely to be bottom four teams, they will finish below us and we should've beaten them but your logic is deeply flawed. Freo had only played 3 other teams when we played them! And the two they lost to are Geelong and WB. If they'd played Brisbane and GC in the first two rounds by your logic we would've lost to a top 4 team!

Anyway sorry to be so pedantic, I am also very nervous about this game.

If we make it and have to play a Thursday night final I will be f*****g livered... There's talk that it will be in Adelaide but if Adelaide are playing a Richmond I doubt they'd put it on the Thursday night so might leave us vs Port on the Thursday night.. Watch us get shafted if Essendon sneaks into 8th and plays Sydney... We'll be the ones left with the [censored] time slot

Worked for the Doggies last year ;)

Did anyone catch Talking Footy last night? BT completely wrote us off doing any damage in the finals if we make it and even went on to say we've been a disappointment and that all the talk was around St Kilda under performing and more should be about us.

I get what he's saying to an extent. I don't think we can really make a lot of noise and we've got a bunch of under 50 gamers but to say we're a disappointment is just wrong.

Yeah I saw it mate, was even thinking of writing to channel 7 with some stats. How he/they cant see we improved is beyond me. Carey always sticks up for us at least.

He always is mate, it's nothing new. For some reason he hates Dee's, something must of happened back in the day, maybe some of the oldies can shed light on it?

I wouldn't take anything that baffoon BT says seriously - the guy is seriously suffering early-onset dementia.

No doubt he hates us. Have to say this was my first time watching the show in a while so not totally up to date with his material. I can only take so much BT. Quite often turn the volume down in games he's calling.

Will be interesting how many we would be allocated as an interstate side... You'd imagine at least 10,000 would have to be avaliable for us at an Adelaide oval

Yeah you'd think so. I went to the game V Port there 2 years ago and was at least 4000 dees fans there.

I watched the Replay of Sundays game last night.

Particularly in the 1st Quarter, so often our ball movement was fast and almost 100% accurate.

We could turn it on in a few weeks. Could.

Having 2 more games at The MCG is such a bonus.

Beating The Bears will not be easy....

Do you legitimately think that Richmond will drop their last two against the Saints and Dockers?  That looks like you are attempting to do one of two things...

1) Manufacture a huge MCG clash between Tigers and Dees in week one of the finals... if thats the case Kudos for trying!

2) Attempting as hard as you can to try and push the Tigers down to 9th place... in which case even more Kudos!! :)

Very nervous about this one more so than the Saints. Their midfield can play and they have a spread of goal kickers, just look at the stats from the last game. Hardly a player that did not get on the scoreboard. Shows players and a team in great form.  We need to nullify Martin and apply pressure across the board. We do not want to get into a shootout otherwise they will outscore us. We have so much to play for but this will be a hell of a match and another game that will go down to the wire.

It would be unacceptable to lose this one - Brisbane were good last week but Gold Coast were ridiculously inexperienced and undermanned - averaged just 60 games experience across the team. No excuses for us this week.

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50.
