My wife walked into the front room where I was watching the game last night just as Plugger Mac kicked the winner. She looked at me strangely, as I was standing right in front of the TV shaking my fists in a more animated version of Goody. It took me a while to explain we'd just gone in front with 20 secs to go because I was panting quite hard.

she understood in the end, I think. Took me a while to wind down!

This is (arguably) the most joyous thread I've read on Demonland.  Loving every post!

Two big things I've noticed in the last few weeks:

- our players aren't all going for the ball at once so there is (nearly) always someone running past to receive.  I was amazed at how much space we found last night, especially in the last quarter, when the ball seemed locked up and heading for a ball up.  Caught eagles flat footed!

- we don't seem to use the 'zone' defence quite so much.  There is a lot more one-one-one.  Also a player or two is staying back so there haven't been many 'out the back' goals.  It seems we are getting better at knowing when to zone and when not to zone.  I suspect Lewis has a lot to do with ensuring this happens.

These show how we have refined the execution of our game plan from last year and earlier this year as our players mature and gain experience.  And there is more maturing to happen.  Exciting times.

What a ripping win!  4 in a row woohoo.  That game was  exciting all the way through - we are a 4 quarter team now.

I am worried about who will get up for next week,  with a few niggles and injuries.

I loved the end the most - when all the players had a look of pure delight on their faces, another monkey off the back - they believe in the team and that's why we are winning - team first!!

Oh and its awesome having Maxy back out there

So just to clarify....

Dimma is coach of the year so far. Collingwood have the best midfield, and the Swans are currently the inform team of the comp?

Who is Mark Robinson.

For the punters out there, I took Melbourne into Melbourne Storm for the double. It was 41/1.

To the person who suggested to trade T.Mac, what were you thinking of? Someone mentioned where can we get another Mac from, since both Macs were pick No.43 perhaps that was the telling factor. Just another theory. Absolute brilliant win.Go the Dees.

Win off a six-day break. Win a tough interstate road-trip. Win with some key players out. Win against the umps and a vociferous home-crowd. All that stuff. But one thing not mentioned so much - win at Domain, and on its dimensions. We weren't able to play our usual game - and it was telling. Yet we still found a way to win. Anyone, anywhere.

Dissapointed in the coverage in the Herald Sun, Tommy M was on the backpage but we just got a small match report a out ten pages in. Dogs got about 5 pages, hey ho.

When Hannan goes to the contest, either something good happens for us or something bad happens for the opposition. To my way of thinking, this guy is the pick up of the year....... for any team.

Some notice next time pls WW!  Wd mate.  Yes I saw him for first time a few years back with son in tow as a budding guitarist.  He didn't know what hit him.  Actually I didn't know what hit me as I hadn't realised how much NY was into grunge & heavy vs his ballads.  Think he might have sung one ballad or two max on the night lol.

In the next six weeks we have matches against the three top teams, the 'in-form' team of the comp, and the last of our bogey teams. Bring that mother [censored] [censored] on mother [censored].

Pineapple after witnessing his first game I saw him as a bit like a smaller version of Fyfe.  Looking good so far and getting better by the month!  That snap off his left in heavy traffic was typical of his goal sense, real natural footy instincts and quick reflexes. A real natural that you don't see much of anymore.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
