May's age means he has to get paid a heap of money to be in the top 5% of players and therefore draw first round compensation. That would mean he has to get through the year without injury and in decent enough form to draw the big offers. I rate him very highly, but I want him now and not after another year of battling around in a crap team. The longer you do that the less likely it is you get back to your best.

Also pick 5 in this draft is worth far more than only a potential chance of a pick 2.

The idea of knocking back pick 5 is all silly talk because May's true value is more like a couple of mid to late firsts with pick swaps, similar to Lever, rather than handing over a prestigious pick like pick 5. Gold Coast are just spreading some doubt to keep the price high.

With May now being touted as happy to go anywhere in Victoria, it is time for our team to lay down the final ultimatum to Freo - right now, give us two first rounder, and Brayshaw of Cerra, or GOGF right now.

Deal or no deal.

Maybe we should get President Trump to do our negotiating ??

We tried to rush Freo. It seems as though they are in no rush. Bell might be learning on the job and making some simple errors, but if he isn't in a rush then he'll do a good job for them. Freo are holding off for a good Neale deal, and so they should be. Once that is through they will probably offer us unders for Hogan at the last minute, and I suspect we will take it - just to get May (which is stupid). If we end up straight swapping Hogan for May then it would be the last straw for whoever is in charge, especially after the Lever debacle last year.

King Ding this team at the MFC that you think are doing such a lousy job got our team into a preliminary final this year. Last straw says you, I think you are sweating the little things and ignoring the big picture. I would give away Max & Clarrie & Viney for pick 87 if it got us a flag or two. That is after all what it is all about.

A lot of hot air and silverback bluff.

Will it work out? Don't know, but sure as hell look forward to Thursday so as not to deal with Bell-end anymore.

Mitch Cleary reporting that Steven May is happy to play for any Victorian Club.

Things just escalated a little...

Cleary is misquoting Cameron. All Cameron said is that May's open to come to Melbourne  (city) and his suitors  (ie Melbourne & Collingwood) need to come up with suitable currency. Clubs aren't going to come from the clouds tomorrow and trade for a guy they haven't even done a medical on.

It's an deliberate misquote non story. May will be with either Gold Coast or the Demons in 27 hours time.

Couldn't agree more. He clarified it later by saying that he was highly likely to end up at Melbourne.

must say I cannot see what good three draft picks under 10 will do for the Suns.

They need solid senior players. They'll be lucky to hold two of those 6 top 30 picks beyond 3 years.

Pity we can't talk Hogan into going north May and a top ten draft pick would be a breeze.

I think they will be off loading some more top young talents in (2019)... ones who started off the wrong way in a lousy club culture.

The cleanup will take a little while, and more mature footy heads have been recruited.

Dewy is doing things right, now... there won't be any quicky fix, up on the Gold Coast. They are rebuilding that footyclub... and the contesting.

The next thing then, they will aim for, is to get to being a destination club,,, as we aimed for.

For these reasons, I think they will recruit young guns this year... to start them off with discipline and doing the hard work.

Wouldn't the last straw after these past two years trades, be an actual effect, like an ordinary defence or a forward line lacking scoring power? Or is it only about the symbolism of Mahoney winning a trade to you?

Wouldn't the last straw actually be a defence that doesn't work after all these trades?

Doesn't mean we should overpay just on needs. We were told last year we needed Lever, so we decided to overpay. We overpaid for an unproven lock down defender with an ACL history - who didn't set the world on fire and then did an ACL. Now because we give away this years (and last years) first rounder for Lever, we are trying to offload Hogan and get May - another player we apparently need because of our defense. I could not make this sh*t up if I tried. What world are these space cadets living in when they want to offload Hogan for Steven May? All because they overpaid for Lever. I bet these hero's in charge that everyone applauds didn't even mention Lever's ACL history to Adelaide and tried to bargain down. Just like when we traded a second rounder for Melksham only for us not to factor in a WADA ban and have Melksham sit out for a year. These guys are amateurs. And on top of that anyone wanting to offload a player the quality of Jesse Hogan, essentially in exchange for Steven May, well, they have rocks in their head and they need to be removed from their post ASAP.

GCS Update on May and Kade:

Cameron suggested Brisbane’s pick five, which could go to Fremantle for Lachie Neale before moving to Melbourne for Hogan, would provide the linchpin for any May deal...we’re at the end of that chain and we’ll wait and see what happens," he said.

"We’ll get something done with Kade either today or tomorrow," Cameron said...If they come to us with something around Steven then it might be tied into that, that’s a fair way off as I said."

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-10-16/may-happy-to-move-to-a-victorian-club

The key point for me is pick 5 is the linchpin for a May deal ie there will be other +/- .  I read that as GCS adding to May with picks or player(s) depending on when it gets done.

Unlike Peter Bell, Craig Cameron is an experienced and professional operator. Upon reading that I’m more confident than ever that MFC and GCS have prepared both a May/Kolodjashnij package deal and a Kolodjashnij only deal and are ready to execute either depending on what plays out with Freo re: Neale and Hogan.

Very noticeable shift in rhetoric from May camp in past 24 hours as the reality of Hogan staying at Melbourne hit home.

Dees out of the race. Bidding opened up to the floor.

Where's the evidence of that? One comment from Craig Cameron with no real backing from anyone to do with May.

Meanwhile the Jake Niall article lays out the deal that will have him as a Demon.

Jake Niall can lay out whatever he likes. I read a direct comment from Cameron that spoke volumes. You disagree ... no problem.

Based on no factual evidence that says or written that we're officially out of the race.

May is very much right on the edge of becoming a demon by this time tomorrow night.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
