Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Christian Petracca article

Another one behind the paywall, but well worth a read if you can get around it:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/melbourne/christian-petracca-has-lofty-ambitions-and-the-confidence-to-help-him-get-there/news-story/35182e694d13a8a0f4714ae491eaed2b

I didn't put the click bait title in the heading as it would make Trac sound arrogant, which is not the nature of the article, but the best part of it was the final few sentences which read:

“I want to be that person that can play midfield, but one who can rest forward to go deep if the game is in the balance.”

He’ll be doing that in red and blue. Out of contract at the end of next season, he said re-signing was a formality.

“I absolutely love it here,” he said.

Amen to that, Trac.  What a great thing to read on a Sunday morning.  You are welcome to sign a long term deal whenever you like my friend!

Thanks Wise, nice article tells a bit about the man.  This is another bit that I really liked:

"Petracca, recruited as an explosive forward-midfielder, has set his mind on improving his endurance to become a more regular onballer in the form of Richmond’s Dustin Martin and Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray.

The 21-year-old Demon has slashed more than 40 seconds off his 3km personal best — now 10min 29 sec — since arriving at the club".

I think it's great that individuals of MFC keep getting exposure in the media - not so much about the individual or the article itself as a stand alone - but the more exposure MFC oriented topics are out there - the bigger the gain for commercial viability.

Are you sure? The exposure curse seems alive and well this season.

I think its far too simplistic to link the two. As disappointing as it is...Correlation is not causation.

Personally I'd prefer Goodwin put a ban on any player doing any optional media work for the rest of the year. Cancel the distractions, the big noting, the egos. On field results attract sponsors, not head wobble articles like this. Double down and work bloody hard on being more than a 10th placed side.

Agreed let the captains handle it always the case when Dees players head down media Street.

I didn't necessarily have a problem with the article, but Christian had a poor game. You put a big target on your back when you make big claims and don't back them up. I'm glad he has the confidence to do so, but the timing wasn't great.

Dangerfield has the credit in the banks mate. Petracca is still finding his feet at AFL level.

Big difference

My take on it is this.  If you can handle the subsequent pressure of putting yourself forward in the media, then how are you going to be in the last few minutes of a final.

Dangerfield is not talking about his credits mate.  He is challenging buffoons who suggest that AFL players should be in a cave between games.

Petracca has been playing injured and he needs another pre-season to really get his endurance up.  He plays a very unselfish, team game - likely on specific coach instruction - which I think is great.

There have been some glimpses and cameos this year to show what he is capable of.

When he gets his body right and is licensed to take responsibility to own the play then he is going to absolutely explode.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
