6th in the AFL for clangers per game- 4.86 per game.

Dom Tyson ???

Most overrated player on the list.

From memory, wasn't the list of top clanger makers filled up with a who's who of gun midfielders.

Not saying this is Dom by any stretch as he definitely makes his fair share of blunders, but worth evaluating how it is measured.

Look he hasn't been good this year but at his best he is a very handy player on our list. Take a look at our win vs Hawthorn last year, he was one of our best.

Everyone was critical of Viney earlier this year and are now eating their words. He is a lot better than what he's currently dishing up.

How high have we rated Tyson to call him overrated? Tyson is a smart footballer, yes he makes mistakes like we all do but he more than compliments our midfield as evidenced by his great second half against the Crows. He gets under the oppositions guard when they don't pay attention to him and he contributes offensively.

How about the OP outlines what constitutes a clanger. It's one of those stats that doesn't tell a true reflection on the overall performance of the player. Pretty sure that Dangerfield and Fyfe were "clanger kings" in their Brownlow year.

IMO, Tyson has played pretty well in the past 3 weeks.

What a stupid metric when taken in isolation. I would like to see m gained and a few other indicators as well. I like Dom, he is dancing on a postage stamp most times after getting the ball on the inside. I can't understand the OP and others giving it to him - he is having a go with his head over the ball and getting better all the time.

A ridiculous thread, particularly when contextualised with the other 'Clanger Kings'. Dom Tyson is one of the first picked every week, and deservedly so.

Would the knockers prefer Jack Steven, Dustin Martin or Dangerfield to Dom?  Of course they would, even with their higher 'clanger count'.  Few would argue that Hibberd's disposal off HB has been a revelation for Melbourne this year ........ but he's ranked #15 in the AFL for clangers!  And where is TMac  ranked?  Isn't he our our worst turnover merchant?  This stat, when taken in isolation, is utter rubbish.  In any event, Melbourne's game style is one of high risk and high reward.  Reduce the risk, reduce the clangers, reduce the reward.

I am constantly amazed on demonland how differely i assess particular players to some posters. Tyson is a case in point. Are we watching the same game bobby clark.

Yes tyson can turn it over at times - just as one of our best kicks in lewis can going by tge list above. But often it is because he is an inside mid kicking from congestion. What he can do that few in our team can (hibberd being one, watts another) is hit targets and/ or put the the ball to advantage of teammates 50 -60 metres away. This is a critical skill, particularly in todays footy where getting it out the back of high presses quickly is so important in terms of setting up scoring chances. There was a terrific example in the crows game that set up a goal.

Add his inside abilty, strength, his smarts and the way he can create space on his left side and you a very valuable player. As evidenced by the fact he is a best 22 lock week in, week out. But what would goody know. Maybe he picks him because hw likes his hair.

You are going to turn the footy over sometimes when you get it as much as he does.  No footballer is perfect.

He has had a slow start to the year, though, and has made some errors that a player of his calibre shouldn't be making.  I feel like he was getting back to his best a little during the second half of the Adelaide game, so let's hope that trend continues.

So the clangers list is essentially a list of the best players in the league from what I can see?

The more disposals a player gets, the higher their clanger count due to weight of numbers. This shows further that stats are often irrelevant. That game against West Coast in WA last year was proof of this to me. We won literally every stat convincingly, yet managed to lose the game.

Our top 5 clangerers are Tyson, TMac, Vince, Oliver and Hunt. All 5 of them are also top 10 in disposal average (Tyson 5th).

Gee, what a revelation that the players who get the ball the most are the ones with the greatest chance of misusing it on occasion.

Tyson has his short comings but if I see him lay 2 monster tackles in 5 minutes like he did last week, that'll do me.

Is there a higher New Thread to Total Post ratio on Demonland than Bobby Clark?

A strange phenomena isn't it. I'm sure there is a relevant psychological condition that covers such behavior. Trollitis? Thread worm?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
