Love how Brownie (J Brown) continues to pump us up. During ON THE COUCH a moment ago, he just said something along the lines of Melbourne have "arguably the best midfield in the comp". Someone fact check me there, but I'm pretty sure that's what I just heard.

He did say that, also said it's a midfield built to win a flag. Usually spot on with what he says IMO

there is one footage (front on) where the ball seems to change direction round about the time it passes the right hand goal post. i wondered whether it might have been a video artifact, like the video had a stutter. if it did clip the inside of right hand post then it would be hard to explain how it then continued to the right of the left hand post, given the angle of the kick.

given no-one claimed it clipped the goal post at the time i'm inclined to think it was a visual trick as the ball revolution altered (due to the banana effect) or that part of the video had a technical artifact event

Methinks you are a mechanical wizard, akin to Archimedes or someone of that stature, maybe even Maimonides???

No, can't be right...that champion data mob reckon we've got the worst midfield in the comp...

Can't wait to hear how they spin this one.

Yes, we're miles behind C'wood, who have the best one!

I mentioned earlier that I'm somehow reminded (as to potential) of Brisbane's middle in the early 00's. A midfield built to win a flag? Jonno would know.

I know  how much did that rubbish cost us all

4K Go Pro Cameras are not that expensive and the AFL are certainly using eqipment inferior at the moment

Maybe I'll give the AFL a call and supply some heat cameras to focus on the goal posts to find the hotspot ;)

The stats are there for anyone to look at. We did have Adelaide kick 5 in a row. IN every other game we have had quarter blowouts. Not sure why you are looking for an argument against that fact.

There's a difference between letting opponents go on runs of goals (which, as an aside, has now happened in all 8 games) and our backline leaking like a sieve.

Bernie gets a $1,000 fine for a blindsided hit with the umpire - deemed 'careless contact'.

Guthrie gets off for pushing the umpire out of the way and he gets off - deemed "It was the view of the panel the contact was not unreasonable in the circumstances"

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-05-15/match-review-panel-full-statement-round-eight

I'm convinced the MRP has it in for Demon players.

This, coupled with Cotchin getting off, frustrates me endlessly.

It looked to me like Vince was pushed into the umpire's path by Sloane. Had no intent whatsoever to hit the umpire, was just an accident. Meanwhile Guthrie deliberately shoves an umpire in the back and that's considered "not unreasonable".

And then Cotchin does exactly the same thing Lewis/Hogan did against Carlton but because Fremantle didn't submit a medical report detailing some sort of serious injury, he doesn't get a week. The consequence again getting in the way of the action - what Cotchin did was the same level of bad, the same level of dangerous, as Hogan/Lewis, but only they missed weeks.

I actually liked Gerard Healy's quote:

"so summing up - message to the Adelaide Crows midfield, get harder and get off the chicken nuggets...it would seem if you want to take it up to the Demons"

The lead up to the Healy call was that Brown also gave us a bit of a plug for having an unsociable midfield and that Clarry had gone to another level since he'd got off the chicken nuggets!

Did he mean that it resembled 'Total Football' tactically or something along the lines of the complete performance?

At first he said it was the best performance in the last 10 years. Then when Gerard & Robbo began analysing later on Robbo revised that to be the best performance of the season by any team or something very similar. That's how I recall it anyway.

More like a tequila-soaked worm. It would certainly raise the alcohol percentage though.

On another note, he may not have set the World on fire with big bags of four or five goals, but my take is that Jeff Garlett is back to his best this season and has been consistently good in most/all games that I remember (probably our most consistent small forward).  His forward pressure was pretty good (again) on the weekend with six tackles and my perception is that he has got better at distributing the ball/setting up other players inside 50 and certainly his set shot goal kicking has been pretty solid this year, where previously I thought it was a bit of a shortcoming.

He has been important to our team so far this year and I'm looking forward to a day when Jeffy really turns it on and has a day out.

His forward pressure was sensational in my opinion. But I felt that he was actually a bit down on touch on the weekend. A lot of near misses with not so clean hands and a couple uncharacteristically poor snaps. Comes with the territory though.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
