I think we will win because we will back ourselves to score more.

Carltons problem is they can't kick a big total and can't defend a small total. (In simple terms)

I think we'll go for it and it'll rain goals. Rolls of goals. Goal after goal after goal. Goal upon goal. It'll be something beautiful to behold. 23 of them to be exact. Lovely.

Don't you mean "It'll be something beautiful to begoald."

Kent sounded under whealming at VFL level and we've a full deck of forwards, Harmes brings grunt, run and backline experience.

Don't mind it.

Article on our website says Spencer and Kent will play VFL, with BenKen to be the carryover player. Obviously confident that Gawn will be good to go.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP....

Im flying down tomorrow for Sunday's game, I'm a Redleg member and am taking a friend but forgot to purchase a guest pass during the week. Can I purchase one from the home office where guest passes are normally collected on game day?

cheers

I see your mate did not get  a run dd!

Im actually more surprised he was named at first after he did bugger all pre season. Coaching staff must rate him over Trengove Bugg etc who were alot fresher.

Kent should have been the other choice.

Can understand Harmes ahead of Kent. Kent too similar to Hannan and Neal-Bullen for mine. Harmes is more "midfieldish" - is also tough, does the team stuff and can mark when on song. Kent may also be short of a run.

Understand the argument that Kent is far classier, and it's true, it's just a question of the team mix for mine. I expect once Kent is back in he won't come back out again, and although the same can't be said for Harmes, it doesn't mean it's not the right choice for the short term.

Pretty stoked to see Hannan not dropped to an emergency, I thought he was fantastic last week and the man can definitely play good footy.

Was never in doubt IMO. Slotted straight in.

Yep, so Harmes comes in. Will use his strength in the air and aggression on the ground down back. He is arguably our worst kick and decision maker, so I hope he doesn't kill us off half back, but his inclusion is the right decision.

Happy to have Kent play a couple of weeks at VFL level to get up to speed. I want him breathing fire. He's one of our most inconsistent players and for years I've maintained he won't make it, but our depth could be the making of him. If you don't perform in Goodwin's team, you won't get a game the following week. I hope, therefore, he'll be hungry when he returns to the AFL side.

god i hate the phrase 'hungry' as if he's not, its about consistency in effort, and more so the willingness to experience whatever shows up and do it anyway...not a pop at you @A F...just a complete sense of disgust at that phrase... akin to ... 'they didn't turn up to play'... its reductionist and impotent.

Yes. Well you have been able to in the past. Have not been to the G in 2017.

Edit: I believe the guest pass just gets you into the section where you sit. You may need to purchase a general admin ticket to get into the ground.

Fair enough, D. Each to their own. I'd say there are games where Kent hasn't been hungry and that's been reflected in his tackle count, his ability to get involved in the play and his occasional invisibility. It depends on your definition of hungry.

The way I read it is that Kent would be the natural replacement for Neal-Bullen, but as ANB put in a solid shift last week and Kent isn't 100% matchfit anyway, the MC have decided to give ANB another week to see if he can cement his spot. In the meantime, Kent can get some more miles in his legs and put his case forward for selection next week.

It's a big week for ANB I reckon. This is his chance, if he doesn't take it, I reckon Kent will come in for him next week (depending on other forced changes).

Surprised to read Mitch Hannan is 189cm.  How many blokes can snap goals like he can at that height.

At 23 with real X-factor and great foot skills he could be a Hunt-like recruiting decision.  I like what he brings to the team and think he can cement a spot in the 22.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
