Very good LDC.

It is only 9.40 but that might be today's winner.

Have been waiting for the game to appear on youtube. I notice that someone has uploaded the last 6 minutes of the final quarter. Went to watch it and it has already been shutdown by the AFL content rights holders.

I suspect we are in for a whole new ball game this year in protecting their digital rights.

Foxtel is in all sorts of trouble, they are doing everything to protect their exclusives. Apparently they have even been buying out rights to movies and tv shows being shown in Australia so that netflix and the like cant show them.

Just doing the sums on Foxtel.... in practice if you want sports and drama (TV shows) it is around $100 per month limited to one TV and some tablets etc.

Compare that to Netflix at $10 per month. Ok... no sports ... but the value proposition for foxtel is a tough one especially of you can access sports by an alternative low cost mechanism such as the AFL app.

I know the AFL app isnt perfect, but combine it with a Chromecast and you're in heaven, all games on TV for just 5 bucks a week.  Beats the hell out of Foxtel.

Just watched the replay via the app casted to my big screen TV.

what was the resolution like and what size TV if you do not mind me asking

Thanks

The resolution is HD, but the stream usually starts off bad for the first 30 seconds or so for some reason.  Guess it takes a minute to catch up or whatever.

So instead of closing and restarting the stream like I used to do i just leave it and the quality fixes itself.

Also, 55" screen.

Perhaps I am not as fanatical as some or have the opportunity to attend where others do not.

I go to games or  I watch on FTA if those are are not available to me I read reports and look forward to the next game I can see.

It seems to me if I get more desperate to see the team in action I will pay for one of the services.

Nothing is for free guys.

Saturday afternoon/evening was hell. Footy on the big screen, Cricket on the laptop, F1 on the tablet and footy on my phone outside at the BBQ.

Foxtel Go  gives you 5 devices, must have had the NBN humming.

I have to say picture is not great for me when i use chromecast. But it's ok. As you say it does often seem to start crap but then gets better. But it is a long way from HD for me.

yes, but you might expect a decent service at a reasonable price.  AFL app is not a decent service. Foxtel is expensive since you can't just buy what you want.

I'd love to go to all the games too - please loan me your private jet OD.

Many thanks.... will try to borrow a friends phone who has the app and give it a trial run .... looking to run it on a 70" screen

PS the Formula 1 was on the local cable where I am at present. It was shown in Ultra HD.... the picture was magnificent ... pity about the race and our local hero

did you get Foxtel via internet connection or by cable. If the former how does your ADSL handle the Foxtel HD stream

I have ADSL and am unlikely to see the NBN for the next two years, The cable doesn't service my place and from what I understand the satellite dish service is no more. In the main the ADSL is good but it can be slow at times

thanks

Signed up for the $89 a year AFL live pass. Watched the replay on a desktop. Pretty crappy vision. Goes in and out of focus regularly. But its cheap enough I supose.

Had no success casting to the TV using Chromecast. Anyone recommend a chromecast app that can do it?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
